F3 ACTION STEPS: Review all guardianship laws in Georgia to determine if any changes are needed to allow <strong>for</strong> greater compliance<br />

with the permanency goals established by ASFA. (Guardianship as defined by ASFA includes all legal<br />

arrangements that are permanent and self-sustaining, thus the relationship outlives the jurisdiction <strong>of</strong> a court).<br />

Evaluation: DHR will propose changes in guardianship laws as necessary.<br />

ACCOMPLISHMENTS:<br />

1 st Quarter Report: Ongoing research and dialogue is occurring to identify what is being done in other states and what practice issues<br />

are being used or prohibiting courts in Georgia from utilizing this permanency plan option.<br />

2 nd Quarter Report:-No report is due this quarter.<br />

2 nd Quarter Federal Response: What is the status?<br />

3 rd Quarter Report/Georgia's Reply: Senate Bill 236 was passed during the past legislative session. This bill allows <strong>for</strong> the<br />

placement <strong>of</strong> children, post termination <strong>of</strong> parental rights, in the home <strong>of</strong> a guardian that is appointed by the court. Further dialogue<br />

with DFCS SAAG's required during the next training to assure that the use <strong>of</strong> this provision in the law is use, if applicable, and allows<br />

<strong>for</strong> children to achieve permanency.<br />
