Welcome to another busy season where we have a great 

line-up of events to see us through the long evenings until 

Christmas. 

We open the season with the eagerly awaited arrival for 

the first time of the classic rock ‘n’ roll musical by Richard 

O’Brien, THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW in September. This 

show promises to be a non-stop party at the boldest bash 

of them all! 

Comedy is a mainstay of our offering this season with a 

wide variety of comedians taking our stage beginning 

with THE BLAME GAME and FUNNY AT THE FORUM 

in September; ARDAL O’HANLON and CLUBSOUND 

in October and TV favourites ALAN DAVIES and 

Portstewart’s own JIMEOIN later in the season. We also 

have some great music with renowned Irish troubadour 

CHRISTY MOORE while BRIAN KENNEDY and THE 

PRIESTS both join us around Christmas. 

There’s something different for our drama lovers this 

season with the Lyric Theatre’s acclaimed production 

of BRENDAN AT THE CHELSEA starring actor ADRIAN 

DUNBAR. Icarus Theatre Company brings us 

Shakespeare’s OTHELLO while brand new musical 

TEENAGE KICKS by Colin Bateman premieres in 

November. New comedy drama SPRINGTOWN CAMP 

1963 arrives in October while MAIRE-A WOMAN OF 

DERRY will see its last ever performance this season by 

Carmel McCallion. 

There is ballet with a beautiful production of THE 

SLEEPING BEAUTY by the Moscow Ballet while Olivier 

award-winning team Boy Blue Entertainment brings a 

new narrative dance piece, THE FIVE AND THE PROPHECY 

OF PRANA. 

Our seasonal favourite, our 

pantomime, PETER PAN, takes us 

on a trip to Never Never land with 

Peter, Wendy, Captain Hook, Tiger-lily 

and all the gang. Prepare for festive 

fun with stage magic to make the 

children – and adults! – gasp in awe! 

We look forward to yet more performances and 

opportunities during this momentous City of Culture 

year. 

The ever popular Rocky Horror Show, which is 

celebrating its 40th anniversary, encourages us into 

a time warp again. Other highlights range from 

Opera NI’s performance of “The Importance of Being 

Earnest” to punk musical “Teenage Kicks” telling 

classic love stories with a twist right through to 

Othello which is still as relevant to today’s audience. 

We are delighted to see the Lyric’s Danske Bank Stage 

production coming to the North West with Adrian 

Dunbar portraying the legendary Behan in “Brendan 

at the Chelsea”. 

In October, as the city prepares to be centre-stage 

once again internationally, through the annual 

Halloween festival, dance is in the programme 

performed by the Moscow Ballet. Sleeping Beauty 

will appeal to young and old, especially aspiring 

ballerinas. 

Famous names such as Alan Davies and Jimeoin will 

give us all the opportunity to laugh out loud. 

Finally we’d like to take this opportunity to thank the 

Millennium Forum staff who have continued to bring 

us a mix of showcasing local talent and old favourites.

Celebrating the life and 

work of the city’s oldest 

and foremost playwright 

Born in Londonderry in 1678, George 

Farquhar is one of the most enduring voices 

in world theatre. Best known for his restoration 

comedies, including The Recruiting Officer and 

The Beaux Stratagem, Farquhar’s plays are still 

performed the world over. 

The Festival will include two new theatre 

productions inspired by Farquhar’s writing: 

A Fresh Gale and Cold Chicken 

This new bitter-sweet comedy drama tells the story 

of the last few days of Farquhar’s young life in 

Mistress Kemp’s squalid apartment as he struggles 

to complete his masterpiece The Beaux Stratagem. 

Bunny’s Vendetta 

(After Farquhar’s Adventures Of Covent Garden) 

Set in a basement recording studio in London’s 

Tin Pan Alley at the start of the swinging 60’s, this 

adaptation of Farquhar’s novella Adventures Of Covent 

Garden is a comic story of love, intrigue and betrayal.

Featuring Barry Douglas 

Under the baton of Ulster Orchestra’s Principal 

Conductor JoAnn Falletta, Barry Douglas makes a 

welcome return for tonight’s opening concert of 

the 2013/2014 season. As well as Liszt’s famous 

and dramatic First Piano Concerto, he plays a 

rarely heard work by a young Richard Strauss – a 

sparkling scherzo, influenced in style by the older 

composer and just as virtuosic to play. The concert 

opens with Glinka’s popular overture and ends 

with the majestic First Symphony by Brahms. 

Join them as they journey through the decades, 

from the 1950s to modern day, performing 

an eclectic mix of timeless standards and 

contemporary chart toppers from some of the 

world’s best loved artists. You’ll be serenaded 

by the exceptional warmth and energy of the 

fifty-strong choir, as well as an array of soloists 

and duos who will bring a more intimate 

element to the evening.

The premier run of a brand new comedy with a 

sharp social and political bite from the pen of 

local playwright, Brian Foster, whose acclaimed 

plays include: Maire- A Woman Of Derry; 

The Butterfly Of Killybegs; and A Miracle In 

Ballymore. 

The action is set in Springtown Camp and 

Derry’s Guildhall back in 1963. Young radical 

socialist father of five, Harry Kelly, sick with his 

family’s impoverished living 

conditions, writes a nativity play 

for the local children to perform. 

But, with the eight-year-old 

children played by adult actors, 

Gerry Doherty, Carmel Mc Cafferty, 

Pat Lynch and Bill Waters, this will 

be a nativity play like no other. 

Add Seamas Heaney, Joanne 

O’Reilly and Shaunsy Coyle to 

the mix, and the scene is set for a 

night of politically incorrect, sidesplitting 

laughter! And buckets of tears too, as

The History Links Project comes together for 

the last time officially to mark the end of this 

four year IFI funded project. The project has 

seen people from the rural communities of 

Donegal, Tyrone and Derry/Londonderry meet, 

mix and learn from each other. This celebration

Health, funded by Big Lottery /Arts Council of NI. 

The aim of the project is to positively improve 

the physical, mental and emotional well-being of 

participants with long terms lung conditions and 

their carers. 

Choir Facilitator, Sean Woods will be working with 

BLF NI and Western Health and Social Care Trust 

Respiratory Team to recruit up to 100 participants 

with lung conditions and their carers to the 

community choir.
