EXCITING NEWS - COMING TO ASCOT SOON!!! ‘AUTHORS AT ASCOT’ WEEK
Thanks to the generosity of our wonderful P&C Association, through the Teacher
Scholarship Program, I am planning a week to celebrate writing at Ascot.
„Authors at Ascot Week‟ will be held from 18 – 22 February 2013. We are very
fortunate to have 4 outstanding children‟s authors visiting us and conducting a 45
minute session with each class from Prep to Year 7. They are Tristan Bancks,
Peter Carnavas, Brian Falkner and Julie Fison.
As well, students will be involved in a number of other writing opportunities
during the week, ranging from supervised lunchtime activities, classroom
activities, buddy activities to whole school activities.
The aim of my proposal is for writing to become the focus for the whole Ascot community for a week.
I want this project to raise the profile of writing at our school and engage students in worthwhile
experiences that extend beyond the classroom. By providing stimulating activities and the access to
real authors and writers, I aim to engage and motivate all students and, in particular, those not
usually interested in writing.
„Authors at Ascot‟ week will bring the school community together and give everyone the chance to
get involved, be inspired and enthusiastic about writing. For me, it will be an opportunity to learn
from experts in the field and build my personal expertise, which I will be able to share with all Ascot
teachers and students.
Thank you to those parents who contacted me at the end of last year. I will be in contact soon to
discuss how you can become involved. Classroom teachers would also like to hear from
parents who would be prepared to share with their class, the role that writing plays in
their everyday work.
If you would like to be involved in this inaugural, exciting event, I look forward to hearing
from you. There are many ways in which you can be involved, including supervising lunchtime
activities, displaying student work and assisting in the classroom.
Please feel free to email me: lclac1@eq.edu.au or contact me via my 7/6C pigeon hole.
Many thanks
MASSEY STREET CROSSING
Please be aware that the Massey Street crossing is unmanned at present. The supervisor
is ill and Queensland Transport is having difficulty recruiting a replacement supervisor.
Please contact the school office if you know of anyone interested in such a position.
In the meantime, please take care and be aware of that the Massey Street
crossing is not supervised.
