WHY CHOOSE
NOW THEN?
Now Then is a free magazine distributed all over Sheffield and the Peak District.
WHERE IS
Radar markings – City Centre // Ecclesall Rd / Broomhill OR crookes / Totley / Bakewell /
Woodseats // Hillsborough // do you think more areas? If so could include London Rd or
Abbeydale Rd.
NOW THEN
DISTRIBUTED?
City Centre
The magazine is lovingly produced by Opus Independents, a not-for-profit social enterprise
which has been operating in this, our fair city for over five years. Now Then is a full colour,
content led magazine, featuring articles and interviews on local & national politics, trade,
visual arts, music, poetry and satire. Now Then is read by 30,000-40,000 people each month.
Who do we serve?
We work exclusively with local traders, community groups,
local government and charities, creating and sustaining
strong networks and shared ideologies of independent
trading. Now Then, like many other organisations in Britain
today is a firm believer in keeping money in the local
economy for the local economy.
Now Then does not fill its pages to the brim with
advertising from corporate drinks companies or the latest
pop idol. Now Then Magazine makes a deliberate effort
to encourage freedom of speech and action amongst its
readers. We attribute just a third of the magazine to local
business advertising as opposed to the saturated 75%
of most other free magazines, ensuring that your business
stands out. We believe, as do our readers, that this adds
integrity and value to the content of the magazine and
consequently to that of Now Then as a trusted brand
in itself.
Now Then is supported by
How do we print?
We are committed to the highest possible standard of print
quality and paper weight.
Each edition stands out amongst its competitors, adding
value not only to the experience of reading, but also to that
of advertising. The production quality of Now Then leads
readers to not only follow the magazine on a monthly basis
but ensures that past issues are collected, treasured and
revisited.
Where do you find it?
Now Then is available to pick up for free throughout
Sheffield, with around 500 pickup locations in the City
Centre alone and a further 500 in outer lying areas from
Totley, to Burngreave, Bakewell to Broomhill, Sharrow Vale
to Hillsborough. You’ll find a Now Then in all the major
Sheffield ‘villages’ with an increasing number of pick up
spots each month as more and more businesses, and
community organisations request to be added to our
distribution list. Uniquely we also distribute to pivotal hubs
within the peak district and North Derbyshire including
Bakewell and Buxton.
Now Then can be found in local retailers, bars, restaurants,
doctors, dentists, hairdressers, libraries, tourist information
centres, hotels, cinemas, cafes, takeaways, museums,
theatres, universities, and of course online. We average
three distributions of the magazine per month ensuring that
key hotspots are always topped up.
TESTIMONIALS.
We asked a few of our regular advertisers what they thought of Now Then...
Adele Bailey - Plug.
At Plug we take great care where we spend our advertising budgets.
Now Then have always been a privilege to advertise in, it’s a great local independent magazine which includes
music, art & local issues in a format different from its competition. The team are great to deal with and we never
have any problems.
Christopher Howett - University of Sheffield Students’ Union, Marketing Manager.
Now Then is more than a magazine. It reeks of dreams, beliefs, ethics and exists to make the world a better one.
This is the kind of endeavour that deserves support, be you big or small.
Kate Hewitt - Harley Live.
We’ve included monthly advertising with Now Then in our marketing budget for the past three or four years, and
continue to find it one of the most valuable local press resources we have. It’s refreshing to be working with people
who genuinely take an interest in the work we do in the city, and the Now Then team are consistently helpful, going
beyond simply placing our ad with digital support and preview features wherever possible.
Maria de Souza - Off the Shelf festival, Arts Officer.
We have worked closely with NowThen magazine for the last 3 years. We commissioned them to produce a special
Festival edition of the magazine with 8 pages of interviews and images. The quality of the journalism and artwork
has always been excellent - innovative, dynamic and fresh helping us reach new and younger audiences.
Sue Morton – Director, Abbeydale Brewery:
Now Then has helped Abbeydale Brewery and it’s pub the Rising Sun in Fulwood, Sheffield, to reach a new
audience among Now Then’s key demographic of younger people interested in the creative arts.
We have seen more of these people coming to the pub and have found a greater interest in our beer among outlets
not associated with a traditional view of real ale as a drink of men over 50. We now have very strong custom in
Sheffield’s cafe bars, modern town centre bars and some restaurants.
In addition to Now Then magazine, Opus Independents runs a distribution service for the
same exclusive group of independents. We are proudly associated with the Showroom
Cinema, City Hall and Sheffield Theatres among others; if you have printed material you
need to get to the people of Sheffield, this is the team you need.
