An Account Of Life<br />
Monica married Hitesh this day. At the end of the wedding party, Monica’s mother gave her a<br />
newly opened bank saving account passbook with Rs 1000 as deposit.<br />
Mother: Monica, take this passbook. Keep it as record of your marriage life. When something<br />
happy <strong>and</strong> memorable happens in your life, put some money in. Write down what it’s about next <strong>to</strong> it.<br />
The more memorable the event is, the more money you can put in. I’ve done the first one for you<br />
<strong>to</strong>day. When you look back after years, you know how much happiness you have had.<br />
Monica shared it with Hitesh when<br />
they got home. They both thought it was a<br />
great idea <strong>and</strong> were anxious <strong>to</strong> know when<br />
the second deposit can be made.<br />
This was what they did after<br />
sometime:- 7 Feb Rs 100, first birthday<br />
celebration for Hitesh after marriage- 1 Mar<br />
Rs 300 salary raise for Monica-20 Mar<br />
Rs 2000 Monica got pregnant - 1 Jun<br />
Rs 1000, Hitesh got promoted….<strong>and</strong> so<br />
on….<br />
However after years, they started fighting <strong>and</strong> arguing for trivial issues. They did’nt talk much.<br />
Each felt that they have married wrong person…..no more love. One day Monica called her mother <strong>and</strong><br />
<strong>to</strong>ld her the entire s<strong>to</strong>ry <strong>and</strong> said that she can’t take any more <strong>and</strong> wanted <strong>to</strong> get the divorce from him.<br />
Mother: ‘Sure, girl, that’s no big deal. Just do whatever you want if you really can’t st<strong>and</strong> anymore.<br />
But before that do one thing, spend the entire money that you have deposited in the savings account,<br />
that I have given you on the day of your wedding.’ Monica thought it is true. So she went <strong>to</strong> the bank,<br />
waited at the queue with the plan <strong>to</strong> cancel the account.<br />
While she was waiting, she <strong>to</strong>ok a look on the passbook, <strong>and</strong> looked, <strong>and</strong> looked. Then the<br />
memory of all the previous joy <strong>and</strong> happiness just came up in her mind. She was filled with tears. She<br />
went home without withdrawing <strong>and</strong> cancelling the account.<br />
When she was at home she h<strong>and</strong>ed over the account <strong>to</strong> Hitesh, <strong>and</strong> asked him <strong>to</strong> spend the<br />
entire money before getting the divorce. The next day, Hitesh gave the passbook back <strong>to</strong> Monica.<br />
She found a new deposit of Rs 5000 <strong>and</strong> the line next <strong>to</strong> it recorded as ‘ this is the day I noticed that<br />
how much I have loved you all these years. How much happiness you have brought <strong>to</strong> me.<br />
They hugged <strong>and</strong> cried <strong>and</strong> put back the passbook in the safe. Do you know how much money<br />
