3.11.4 Primary distribution
Production from MPR is distributed as follows (using data for calendar 2007):
export (two percent)
bunkers (one percent)
by road for consumption in Northland (six percent)
pipeline to Wiri (52 percent)
coastal shipping to North Island (21 percent)
coastal shipping to South Island (18 percent).
This is shown below in Figure 3.11. The total annual MPR output is around 5.3 million
tonnes. A further million tonnes is imported direct.
Fuel which goes to Wiri by pipeline is stored there and distributed by road through
Auckland and Waikato. Other parts of New Zealand are served by road from the nearest
coastal storage depot.
