The clever design provides a 6-into-1 video switch allowing all HDMI-equipped components to be fed via a single cable to the display. Going a step further, the processor also separates up to 8 channels of audio signal from the data stream at the HDMI source and provides audio-only outputs for connection to an existing Meridian Surround Controller. HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) connectors are a common sight on HD video and other equipment. Designed primarily to carry digital video, HDMI also carries digital audio. Unfortunately, having both audio and video on the same cable is not always convenient, nor does it deliver the maximum level of quality of which digital multimedia signals are capable. Digital video signals have traditionally been the bane of those in search of the best audio quality. Common problems associated with the signal degradation include noise and even disrupting the signals themselves, causing muting, interpolation and other effects. In particular, digital video can leak into analogue audio circuitry, causing hum, buzz, noise and other unwanted artifacts. Meridian’s new solution easily handles these problems allowing all components that deliver video via HDMI to a common destination. Thus, a single cable can be run from the HD621 to the display, while enhanced digital audio is fed to the sound system. The HD621’s audio outputs connect directly to an existing Meridian processor, offering complete and immediate system integration. The HD621 includes Meridian’s comprehensive FIFO buffering and resolution-enhancement system, similar to that used in the acclaimed 800 Series. This process cleans up and audibly improves the quality of incoming PCM digital audio signals, ensuring that the audio extracted from the HDMI stream is of the purest quality. Meridian has also included a configurable lip-sync delay to compensate for the potential system latency caused by video processing which is commonly more time-consuming than audio processing. The output section includes Meridian’s proprietary MMHR interface, an RJ45 connector that carries eight channels of balanced digital audio data at up to 96 kHz sample rate conforming to the Meridian Multichannel High Resolution (MMHR) specification, with encryption where required to carry high-resolution audio data. Additionally, the SmartLink output, four phono sockets each carry a pair of digital audio channel signals at up to 96 kHz sample rate. These are encrypted to Meridian High Resolution (MHR) specifications. With ease of installation and integration in mind, the HD621 features a RS-232 serial port that enables it to be fully configured and integrated into a media system or touchscreen-controlled home theater, via serial command. There is also Meridian Comms (over DIN and BNC) for connection to a larger Meridian system. For the finishing touch, the HD621 is housed in an elegant black slimline 1U rack-mount panel for unobtrusive installation. The HD621 will be available Q1 2009 with a suggested retail price of: $2,995.

Meridian Now Shipping 810 Reference Video System
International CES, Las Vegas, Nevada, January 8, 2009—Meridian, the leading UK-based
luxury home entertainment manufacturer, is now shipping its stunning centerpiece to the
Meridian Digital Theatre, and in doing so offers the highest quality reproduction of both image
and sound.
The Meridian 810 Reference Video System wowed spectators with its undeniable cinematic
excellence at its introduction. The 810 system comprises two primary elements: the 810
Reference Video Projector, an entirely new D-ILA-based digital projector offering a previously
impossible 10 megapixels – exceeding the resolution even of commercial digital cinema
projectors – and the 810 Reference Video Scaler, a special processor designed to optimize the
imaging of HD and standard resolution inputs for the vast new possibilities offered by a 10
megapixel projection environment. The result is a system that, Meridian believes, represents the
most realistic home theater performance in the world.
Using a brand new light engine, the Meridian 810 Reference Video Projector offers an effective
resolution of 4096 x 2400 pixels, or 10 megapixels. In comparison, a conventional full-spec
(1080p) HDTV image represents just two megapixels. The Meridian 810 Reference Video
Projector also has extremely high light output capability. Powered by a PKI Xenon lamp, it is
capable of delivering up to 4000 lumens, enough to light even the very largest screens to the
Hollywood reference level of 16 foot-lamberts. In addition, the projector has a native contrast
ratio of 10,000:1, ensuring that even in the most difficult scenes, such as those combining bright
light and shadow, detail is never lost. Trained staff at Meridian’s state-of-the-art headquarters
near Cambridge, UK, individually calibrate each projector in a procedure that takes over four
days to complete. The specialized calibration technology was developed exclusively for Meridian
by William Phelps.
To display an image with a resolution of 10 megapixels requires some very special scaling. To
meet this requirement, Meridian has developed the 810 Reference Video Scaler. A brand new
design, featuring Marvell’s powerful, award-winning, Qdeo video processing technology, the
scaler converts any digital source (480i to 1080p) up to full 10 megapixel resolution. Its quiet and
natural video processing produces images that are free from noise and devoid of artifacts
whether operating in 4:3, 16:9 or 2.35:1 modes.
The Meridian 810 Reference Video System is available as a package consisting of both projector
and scaler, which will not be available separately. Four different packages will be available,
featuring lens systems with differing throw lengths. Short, Medium and Long-Throw packages will
include a special motorized 2.35:1 (Cinemascope®) lens assembly, while a Very Short Throw
package, designed for back-projection and simulator applications, will also be available. All four
packages will be the same price: US$185,000 (US retail).
Next-Gen Sooloos Touchscreens Integrate
Meridian Connectivity, Digital Audio Output, IR Remote
International CES, Las Vegas, January 8, 2009—Sooloos LLC, manufacturer of server-based home
entertainment systems widely acknowledge as the most innovative and sophisticated available—as well as the
most intuitive and easiest to use—has unveiled the first new designs since its acquisition by renowned British
manufacturer of high-end digital audio and video systems Meridian Audio Ltd late in 2008. Two new
touchscreen interfaces, the Sooloos Control 10 and Control 20, will debut at the 2009 Consumer Electronics
Show in Las Vegas, NV in January, where the two brands will display in the Venetian Tower Suites, 31-105.
Sooloos COO Peter Wellikoff says, “As the first fruit of the Sooloos/Meridian integration, the new Control 10
and Control 20 integrate Meridian’s SpeakerLink inter-component connectivity, as well as legacy-standard
Meridian Comms, making fully integrated Meridian/Sooloos systems incredibly simple.” Wellikoff continues,
“This is just the first act of what promises to be an exciting relationship.”
Along with Meridian connectivity, the new Sooloos touchscreens incorporate on-board S/PDIF coaxial digital
outputs, permitting either to function as a complete Sooloos “zone” with the addition of any Meridian Digital
Loudspeakers. (Of course, the Control 10 and 20 can also employ more commonplace, other-brand digitalinput
amplifiers, receivers, or powered speakers as well.) Perhaps as important, the new Sooloos controllers
feature the award-winning Sooloos touch interface, the most functionally elegant, user-friendly media-access
solution yet created.
The 15-inch, tabletop-style Control 20 combines superb simplicity with unmatched media-library access and
flexibility, while providing audiophile-grade digital audio for unimpeded musical quality to a local-room system.
The Control 20 LCD display features crisp, HD-level imaging and integrates a resistive touch panel with
outstanding user feedback. The new model also bundles a simplified wireless infrared remote handset, and

programmable volume knob, that make creating a fully functional, remarkably convenient local zone as simple
as just adding speakers.
The desktop-style Control 10 touchscreen boasts a larger, razor-sharp 17-inch LCD surface with the same
superb visuals and tactile precision. What’s more, the Control 10 integrates a slot-loading CD drive in its lowprofile
base for convenient, local-room content-loading or playback without requiring a personal computer or
outboard disc drive.
The new Sooloos designs use cleverly integrated heatsinking for fanless design that renders the Control 10
and 20 completely silent, and thus ideal for the most demanding listening environment and customers. Like all
Sooloos components, the Control 20 and 10 communicate with their Sooloos media-storage and source
components using standard TCP/IP Ethernet connectivity, using either the supplied high-quality Neutrik
EtherCon connectors or any conventional CAT5/5e/6 RJ-45 cabling. Both also integrate Meridian SpeakerLink
and legacy Meridian Comms protocols, providing complete, virtually seamless integration with Meridian’s
famed Digital Loudspeakers, preamp/controllers, and music systems, and both include RS-232 serial ports for
integration with the full spectrum of legacy media and home-control systems.
The Sooloos Control 10 and Control 20 touchscreen designs will be available in January 2009, at
manufacturer's suggest prices of $5,000 and $3,500, respectively.
Sooloos Introduces RackMount Models for Seamless Installation
New RackMount models offered at no additional cost
International CES, Las Vegas, January 8, 2009—Sooloos LLC, manufacturer of innovative, functional,
server-based home entertainment systems and recently acquired by Meridian Audio Limited, is pleased to
introduce, at no additional cost, new RackMount options for its existing line of media servers. The full line of
Sooloos systems will be on display during the 2009 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada,
January 8–11, where the two brands will display in the Venetian Tower Suites 31-105.
The new RackMount models will be available as dual-rack-space (2U) designs finished in black for Sooloos’s
Source, Twinstore, and Ensemble devices. While retaining the core features of their standard counterparts,
the RM models also incorporate important upgrades, including internal fans for heat dispersion and a frontpanel
power switch, for superior performance and greater ease of installation.
“Custom installation remains the core of our business,” says Sooloos COO Peter Wellikoff. “We felt it
absolutely necessary to support the installers, not only by providing rack-mountable options, but also to
produce these products at no additional cost.”
The Source:One RM and Source:Five RM provide the audio outputs and serve as the hub of a Sooloos
system. The Source components provide connection to a stereo or audio distribution system via configurations
of either one or five stereo RCA-type analog outputs respectively, and an S/PDIF digital output.
The Twinstore RM is a network-attached storage device featuring two removable hard-disk trays: one for
primary storage, one for backup storage. The backup process takes place automatically and is completely
transparent to the user, creating an exact copy of the primary library with no interruption of service. Two 1-
terabyte hard disks provide mirrored storage of about 2,400 albums, stored as both lossless PCM audio for use
by the Sooloos system, and as MP3s for export to a portable music device. For increased reliability, the

Twinstore’s operating system is a read-only flash memory that cannot be corrupted.
The Ensemble RM combines the functions of the Source and Store components in a single chassis. It features
four single-ended analog stereo RCA-type outputs and an S/PDIF digital audio output for up to five discrete
zones. Like all Sooloos components, the Ensemble connects to other devices in the system via standard
TCP/IP Ethernet cable, using CAT5/5e/6 cables with RJ-45 connectors.

The Ensemble RM has a 1-terabyte removable hard-disk tray for storage. Like the Twinstore, it can hold up to
2,400 albums, stored as both lossless PCM audio for use by the Sooloos system and as MP3s for export to an
iPod or other portable device. A one-touch process allows the user to back up all media stored on the
Ensemble’s drive to an external hard drive attached to a personal computer.
In the ever-changing world of home-entertainment technology, the Sooloos media-management system is a
complete solution that allows music and photos to be accessed easily and stored reliably.
The RackMount models will be available in February.
Meridian Extends SpeakerLink Technology
Flagship speakers receive update and Legacy products can now be linked
Huntingdon, Cambridge, UK, 24 th November 2008 —Meridian Audio Ltd., the British manufacturer
of stunningly stylish yet technologically sophisticated digital audio and video systems, has extended its new
SpeakerLink single-cable input/output communications protocol to its flagship Digital Active Loudspeaker
model, the DSP8000.
At the same time, Meridian introduced a new installation accessory, the AC11, that allows earlier Meridian
components, including processors, disc players, and digital loudspeakers, to integrate with the new
SpeakerLink system.
SpeakerLink employs cost-effective and universally available RJ-45 Ethernet-style twisted-pair network
cabling to make all digital audio, communications, and control interconnections between Meridian
components. With SpeakerLink, a single, easily concealed wire is the only connection required to connect
Meridian’s DSP loudspeakers with the company’s audio processors or audio-video sources.
“SpeakerLink is at once both simpler and higher in performance, which makes it a perfect statement of all
things Meridian,” says Bob Stuart, Co-Founder, Chairman, and Chief Technology Officer of Meridian Audio
Limited. “The AC11 makes integrating legacy models seamless,” Stuart continues, “while the changeover of
the DSP8000 signals our unreserved commitment to this superior new technology. Meridian remains at the
forefront of innovation, providing solutions for our dealers while delivering, as always, the very best
performance.”
The new AC11 Meridian Component Interlink is a hub that interfaces SpeakerLink components with
Meridian legacy models that employ DIN and/or BNC Meridian Comms ports and S/PDIF digital audio
connections. The AC11 networks a complete system of components and loudspeakers using any of these
connections, while further connectivity—including 12V trigger input, IR Out, and RS-232 serial port—
provides for further system expansion, and enables integration of non-Meridian elements into the system.
AC11 Component Interlink will be available January 2009 with a suggested retail price of $995.
Meridian and Alfred Dunhill: Two of Britain’s Best
Collaborate on Unique Executive Solution
Meridian Audio Ltd., creator of uniquely sophisticated, functionally elegant digital audio and
video components and systems, has far more in common with Alfred Dunhill Ltd. than
quintessential Britishness—though this is not to be discounted. The two firms also share an
uncompromising devotion to inherent quality and intelligent simplicity, and both qualities are
much in evidence in their new, stunning, collaborative one-piece music system. Engineered
exclusively by Meridian Audio for Dunhill, the Alfred Dunhill AD88 Entertainment System
exploits Meridian’s peerless expertise in digital audio and loudspeaker design to achieve
breathtaking musical depth, power, and detail—from a single, handsome, superbly finished
component no bigger than a desktop humidor.
“Partnering with Alfred Dunhill is an unparalleled opportunity for Meridian to reach new customers:
consumers who value unquestionable quality and heirloom status in equal measure,” says Bob
Stuart, Co-founder, Chairman, and Chief Technology Officer of Meridian Audio Limited. “These
are just the sort of individuals who are most likely to become future Meridian devotees. Not just in
Britain but around the world, the Dunhill name is synonymous with the very finest in
craftsmanship and performance. And because we flatter ourselves that the same is true of the
Meridian brand within our own, admittedly smaller community, this joint effort is a perfectly ideal
collaboration.”
Alfred Dunhill, the British luxury emporium for men, is world-famous for leather goods, writing
tools, and more, and is synonymous with qualities of materials and workmanship that are simply
unrivalled. With this standard in mind, the AD88 system’s quiet polished-wood, matte-alloy, and
piano lacquer forms are in the very best Dunhill tradition. But these refined lines conceal very
substantial and genuinely high-performance audio innovations, and a great deal of sophisticated
engineering. The AD88’s state-of-the-art 2-plus-1-channel digital sound system inherits the DNA
of Meridian’s flagship reference systems, to achieve musical performance that will literally stop
the first-time hearer in his or her tracks. Despite its compact form, the Dunhill system integrates a
highly capable, reference-grade Meridian CD player (Meridian created the world’s very first
“audiophile CD player” some 25 years ago); it also includes an FM/AM tuner with an advanced,
built-in antenna engineered for the very best possible reception. The supplied iPod docking
station and remote control complete the AD88’s capabilities, for effortless, fully high-fidelity
reproduction of the owner’s entire personal music collection.
But the Alfred Dunhill AD88 has yet another side that makes it much more than a mere audio
system: The AD88 also plays DVDs with superb video quality, giving you complete disc replay
from one compact unit, when combined with a television or suitable desktop display.
Meridian’s advanced DSP (Digital Signal Processing), developed expressly for the AD88 design,
is one key to its wonderfully detailed, rich sound and impressively wide and lifelike “soundstage.”
But while this technology allows the user to fine-tune the AD88, including optimizing its
performance depending on its placement in the room, it also ensures that the owner who never
touches any control beyond On/Off and Volume will enjoy astonishing sound.
All of this, plus the three powerful amplifiers that effortlessly deliver more than 80 watts to the
system’s two front main speakers and rearward “subwoofer,” reside within a solid, beautifully
finished base of die-cast metal that also serves as a cooling system—without unsightly fins. The
overall enclosure is a dense, acoustically inert, internally braced structure manufactured by
Meridian using specialized, nine-layer Finnish birch, and finished to Dunhill’s design in
