CHECK THE ANTIFREEZE CONTENT
Coolant is a harmful liquid. In
order to avoid poisoning,
avoid skin contact.
1. Turn the rotary temperature control knob
in the vehicle to maximum.
2. Remove the filler cap of the cooling
system.
When the coolant is hot,
there is overpressure in the
cooling system. Carefully
unscrew the filler cap (e.g. by
putting a cloth over the cap
first) to the stop to release
the overpressure.
3. Check the antifreeze level of the coolant.
4. Fill the cooling system with antifreeze if
this has not been done yet.
In order to avoid damage
when pouring cold liquid into
a hot engine, let the engine
run and pour slowly.
5. Preferably use coolant, or if not
available antifreeze, which meets the
specifications set by DAF according to
ASTM D-3306, BS 6580 and SAE J 1034.
In case an aluminium radiator is used,
you should always be extra careful that
these specifications are met.
See the manufacturer’s instructions for
the correct mixing ratio when adding
antifreeze.
DIESEL FUEL
- During the winter months the oil
companies often use additives, such as
flow improvers, to prevent blockages
caused by the precipitation of paraffin
crystals (wax deposits).
- At extremely low temperatures - and if
permitted by law - a maximum of 20%
kerosene may be added. However, if this
is prohibited by law, a maximum of
20% lead-free petrol may be added.
Notes:
Additives which are used to improve the flow
properties of diesel fuel have a purely
preventive effect. They cannot re-dissolve
the paraffin crystals once they have been
precipitated.
Always carry a spare element for the main
fuel filter on the vehicle so that you can
replace it in the event of a clogged filter (also
due to paraffin crystals).
