Only use the parking brake in
an emergency when the
vehicle is moving! Since the
parking brake only affects the
driven wheels, this will produce
a restricted braking
ability and can cause the
wheels to skid.
The warming lamp (13) in the instrument
panel lights up when the parking lever is
operated.
To release the parking brake, pull the parking
brake lever backwards slightly and then
move it forwards.
When leaving the driver’s seat, always
engage the parking brake.
Ensure that the parking brake is in the
blocked position.
STOPPING
Parking
Apply the parking brake with the parking
brake lever. Move the gear lever into neutral.
Switch off the contact and remove the contact/starter
key (if applicable). Place the
main switch in the “OFF” position. Check that
all roof hatches, windows and luggage
lockers are closed and then lock all the doors
of the vehicle.
Special note
When the vehicle is parked on a gradient,
one or more of the following precautions
must also be taken:
- Place chocks behind or in front of the
wheels.
- Angle the front wheels so that the vehicle
will not move into the traffic stream if it
is accidentally set in motion.
Switching off the engine
Bring the vehicle to a halt. Put the gear lever
in ‘neutral’ and run the engine at idle for
a few minutes to let it cool down and -equally
important - to ensure adequate lubrication
of the turbocharger.
Switch off the engine by turning the starter
key to the position “St”, or by using the contact/stop
switch.
Note:
The engine can also be switched off with
the stop push-button in the engine
compartment.
