- With the vehicle stationary or moving
very slowly.
- With the automatic gearbox is in neutral.
The differential lock may never be engaged
while there is wheel spin on one of the axles,
so wait until the wheel has stopped before
you engage the differential lock.
Disengage the differential lock as soon as
you reach firm ground. If the warning lamp
in the switch stays on, drive forwards a short
distance and then reverse in order to release
the locking mechanism.
STEERING
The steering gear is of the hydraulically
assisted type. As excessive pressure can
cause damage to the hydraulic pump, you
should stop turning the steering wheel when
the road wheels are at full lock; you should
likewise stop turning the wheel if the road
wheels are blocked by an obstacle.
The vehicle can of course also be steered
without hydraulic assistance, but this
requires considerable effort.
BRAKES
ABS (ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM)
The ABS unit prevents the wheels from
locking during emergency braking or when
braking on a slippery surface. Furthermore,
vehicles equipped with ABS retain their good
steering properties and directional stability
in these conditions.
DO NOT ADJUST YOUR DRIVING STYLE
OR BRAKING TO THE ABS!
In particular, do not brake later and harder
than you would normally do. This will only
cause accelerated wear of the tyres and the
brake system, and you may endanger other
road users who are driving behind you and
who do not have ABS on their vehicles.
Note:
ABS will never shorten the braking distance.
01480B
Do not disengage the parking
brake before the steering
wheel is unlocked.
Otherwise, it will be impossible
to steer the vehicle.
Service brake and parking brake/
emergency brake
The service brake is operated by means of
the brake pedal. If the service brake does
not work because of insufficient air
pressure, the parking brake can be used
as an emergency brake. By moving the parking
brake lever slowly backwards the
vehicle is gradually braked. With the lever in
the back position, the rear wheels of the
vehicle are braked as much as possible.
