up additional time for attendees to visit
The lighter schedule will also open up
more time for networking and hashing
which takes place two days before the
show opens.
SURFACES
JANUARY 28-31
Mandalay Bay Convention Center
58 on the TSE Gold 100
Hanley Wood Exhibitions signed a deal
on October 5 with the Las Vegas Market
to form an extended strategic partnership
and co-locate SURFACES with the
annual Las Vegas Market in 2013 and 2014.
The goal is to provide their attendees an
enhanced product sourcing, educational
and networking experience.
The co-location is a bit unique in that
Las Vegas Market takes place at the World
Market Center downtown and SURFACES
will be held on The Strip at the Mandalay
Bay Convention Center.
But the product lines and show dates
at both events were similar enough in the
past that a number of attendees routinely
registered for both shows. “Both parties
agreed that it was in the best interest of
our events to hold them concurrently and
give our customers a one-stop shopping
opportunity,” said Dana Teague, group
director of SURFACES.
The space draw for SURFACES earlier
this year snapped up 87% of available
space and sales were running 23,000 nsf
ahead of 2012 nsf. Show managers said
they were encouraged by the number of
past exhibitors returning to the show
after various absences.
Las Vegas Market runs one day longer
than SURFACES, and is also projecting
a good turnout for its furnishings buyers
and manufacturers, who can take a side
trip to Mandalay Bay to look over the
latest in floor coverings.
International Production
& Processing Expo (IPPE)
JANUARY 29-31
Georgia World Congress Center, Atlanta, GA
35 on the TSE Gold 100
The meat and poultry industry rolled
three major trade shows into one big
event that will cover approximately
420,000 nsf and draw 25,000 attendees
and 1,100 exhibitors.
The IPPE is made up of the International
Feed Expo and International Poultry Expo,
which in 2011 ran a combined 319,542
nsf and ranked No. 50 on the TSE Gold
100. They will be joined in 2013 by the
International Meat Expo.
The show fills the Georgia World
Congress Center with the latest machinery
for processing meat, poultry and feed
products. There is also a full educational
program tackling major issues such as
food safety, global economics and the
industrial-scale production of eggs and
meat. Many of the bigger sessions require
an additional fee running as high as $250.
One of the first steps in combining the
three IPPE shows was a stricter policy on
WiFi service on the show floor. It seems
too many exhibitors were setting up their
IPPE
own routers or “hitchhiking” on others’
wireless signals. This year, exhibitors
will be required to use the show’s WiFi
service unless they receive permission
to establish their own service.
