Twinax Plus 

Audio Interconnect 

Known simply as "Twinax," Audio Twinax Plus is XLO's least expensive 

audio interconnect. Although priced for "first-time" or "entry-level" 

buyers, Twinax is made from the same 99.994% pure OFHC (Oxygen Free 

High Conductivity) copper as is used in XLO's much more expensive 

XLO/Ultra brand cables. It also features full copper shielding, premium 

internal dielectrics, and a durable PVC outer jacket. Twinax’ 

performance is so good that, in November, 1998, it won Home Theater 

magazine’s "Cable Face-off' by clearly outperforming cables up to 

three times more expensive! Low cost; great performance; what could 

be better? Audio Twinax Plus is the perfect basic cable for every audio 

application. Here's a hint: Where budget considerations are important, 

use it in two channel stereo systems, too. Your customers will love it!

ER-5 is a "step-up" interconnect that has been proven to meet all of the 

rigid standards set for Lucasfilm THX certification. As with Twinax and 

other XLO/VDO cables, all conductors are formed from specially drawn 

"four nines" (99.994% pure) OFHC copper. This is more costly, but significantly 

better than the ETP ("Electro Tough Pitch") copper used by some other 

brands. The conductor geometry for both Twinax and ER-5 are similar, but 

ER-5's conductors are of a heavier gauge. Also similar to Twinax (and some 

other XLO cables) special low dielectric-constant forming members are 

used to maintain constant conductor spacing and minimize electrostatic 

effects. ER-5 features full copper-braid shielding and (yes, the outer jacket 

does affect the sound) an outer jacket extruded from Dupont ® Elvax ® 

Twinax is great, and tonally almost identical with ER-5, but for customers 

who want something affordably better, ER-5 offers a real improvement in 

detail, clarity, and resolution for only a very modest increase in price.

This is the best interconnect in the XLO/VDO line, and will clearly outperform 

competitive-brand cables at many times its price. To make it, XLO starts with 

the OFHC conductors from ER-5 and doubles them to a "diamond quad" 

configuration, for lowered resistance and to minimize inductive losses. The 

low-dielectric forming members used on Twinax and ER-5 are now no longer 

necessary, and are eliminated. Instead, the conductor array is wrapped in a 

double layer of DuPont ® PTFE Teflon ® A full copper shield is then braided over 

the Teflon wrap, and the whole assembly is jacketed with DuPont ® Elvax ® .This 

interconnect has long been a favorite with reviewers for Curtco's Home 

Theater magazine, Stereophile Guide to Home Theater and other Hi-Fi and 

A/V publications around the world. It offers truly thrilling performance, and 

should be used for any home theater system (particularly those based on 

separate components) where quality and performance are primary concerns.

14 Gauge Speaker Cable 

This is XLO's entry-level speaker cable for Home Theater use. It's 14 

AWG (American Wire Gauge) OFHC copper, jacketed in Union 

Carbide LDPE polymer and over-jacketed in DuPont ® Surlyn ® Like 

ER-11 and ER-12, ER-14 speaker cable has been proven good enough 

to meet the stringent requirements for THX certification. With pristine 

highs, a rich, full midrange and phenomenal imaging capability, it's 

perfect all by itself with mini-monitors, satellites, or for rear speakers 

in a multi-channel system. For normally-wired speakers with fullrange 

bass capability, we recommend ER-11.Here’s another hint: 

For bi-wiring full-range speakers with bi-wire capability, use ER-14 for 

the tweeter or Tweeter/Midrange and ER-12 for the woofer. It's 

inexpensive, absolutely spectacular, and can also be done for two 

channel stereo.

12 Gauge Speaker Cable 

The ER-11 gives you the treble and midrange clarity of ER-14 plus the 

bass impact expected for full-range speakers. ER-11 is the full 12 

gauge OFHC speaker cable, jacketed in LDPE and Surlyn ® , that, along 

with Audio Twinax Plus, won the November, 1998 “cable face-off” 

in Home Theater magazine. We highly recommend ER-11 for – in 

addition to normal L/C/R/ applications – use as the cable for rear 

surround speakers in a Dolby Digital/DTS capable system. Like ER-14, 

it's a two conductor cable, so "internal" bi-wiring is not possible. If you 

want to biwire, use a double run of ER-11 or a single bi-wired run of 

ER-12. A hint: Try using a single run of ER-11 for the Tweeter/Midrange 

and a run of "shotgunned" ER-12 for the woofer. It's utterly amazing!

Enhanced Resolution 9 Gauge 

4-Conductor Speaker Cable 

The ER-12 speaker cable is simply a double run of ER-11 cable made 

in a single DuPont ® Surlyn ® jacket. With its four conductors "shotgunned" 

together as just two (one "hot", one "ground" at each end), it's a full 9 

gauge cable, and is absolutely awesome for woofers and subwoofers. 

Order it in the bi-wire mode, and enjoy the convenience of true 

bi-wiring with just a single high performance cable. When bi-wired, 

ER-12 is exactly the same as two ER-11s, but a lot neater and easier 

to work with.

Unquestionably and by far the best Toslink cable ever 

made. Different looking; different sounding; ER-TOS delivers 

clarity, balance and resolution never before possible in the

the materials and special "focus polishing" of our custom

These are audio/video dubbing cables that combine a 

pair of line-level interconnects and a video cable in a 

single good-looking black mesh jacket. It's convenient, and

your equipment. ER-AV3 uses ER-6v as its (composite) video 

cable. The video cable in ER-AV3s is ER-1s, for S-video

Composite Video Interconnect 

This is a true 75 Ohm composite video cable. Standard termination 

is with RCA connectors, but it's also available with "F" 

connectors or BNC’s. ER-2 can be used singly as an antenna 

cable, a cable for decoder boxes, or as a video interconnect, 

component-to-component or for switchers or A/V preamps. It 

can also be used in multiples as an RGB or component video 

cable. OFHC conductors, 100% double-layer broad spectrum 

(Cu+Al) shielding, foamed LDPE core dielectric, and an outer 

jacket extruded from DuPont Alathon all contribute to ER-2's 

outstanding performance.

ER-1c is a 75 Ohm coaxial, similar to the ER-2 in construction, 

but in a larger (RG-6) format, for reduced losses on very long 

runs. As with ER-2, ER-1c features OFHC conductors, 100% 

double-layer broad spectrum (Cu+Al) shielding, and a 

foamed Union Carbide LDPE core. The outer jacket of ER-1c 

is extruded from DuPont ® Elvax ® , for greater flexibility and 

higher performance. ER-1c is ideal for High-End video applications, 

and when used in multiples, as for component video 

connection, it provides the highest possible resolution. ER-1c 

is available with your choice of RCA, F, or BNC connectors.

S-Video Interface 

ER-1s is an ultra high-quality S-video cable for use with 

Laserdisc players, SVHS VCRs, satellite receivers, DVD players, 

and the coming HDTV set-top boxes. This cable really should 

be used for all S-video capable home theater systems. 

There's just nothing better! ER1s features LDPE and Teflon ® 

dielectrics, OFHC conductors and shielding, controlled 

characteristic impedance, DuPont ® Elvax ® outer jacketing, 

and XLO's own S-video connectors, the very best you can 

buy! A hint: NO cable manufacturer – not even XLO 

– recommends using S-video for runs of more than 5 

meters (16.4 feet) This is NOT to say that it can't be done. 

XLO's customers tell us that they've successfully used ER-1s 

for runs of as much as 80 feet (!) What we ARE saying is that 

it can't be done with any degree of certainty. Among the 

problems that can arise from using long runs of ANY S-video 

cable is that "standing waves" can develop along the length 

of the cable. These are exactly like acoustical standing waves, 

and come about as a result of characteristic impedance 

mis-matches between the two pieces of equipment and the 

cable. If the length of cable you're using is at or near the 

standing wave peak-to-peak distance (which will vary with 

the length of the cable and the amount and frequency of 

reflected energy), you'll have problems, like bars or diamond 

patterns on the screen. Going either longer or shorter MIGHT 

solve this: As with acoustical standing waves, if you're 

between the wave peaks, everything appears normal and 

transmission could be completely unhindered.
