Course Description: Hair Color is a one credit course that provides students with study and experience in hair coloring and lightening. Emphasis is placed on color application, laws, levels and classifications of color, and problem solving. Upon successful completion of this course, students are able to identify all phases of hair collaring and its effects upon the hair and perform procedures for hair coloring and lightening. Problem solving and critical thinking skills are essential, and many opportunities are provided for growth in student's level of competence. Students participate in SkillsUSA as an integral part of this instructional program. Course Outline: Hair Color will include the following major content, but not necessarily in this order: Principles of Color Theory 1. Identify primary, secondary, and tertiary hues on a color wheel 2. Interpret laws of color theory, with regard to base colors, levels & tones 3. Distinguish among factors that influence color selection. (Ex. color harmony, skin tone, complexion, computer imaging) 4. Describe possible reactions to various hair coloring chemicals 5. Compare characteristcis and qualities of hair coloring developers 6. Indentify classifications of hair coloring 7. Analyze skin tones to determine compatability to hair color Hair Color Application Techniques 8. Demonstrate safety procedures used prior to hair coloring. *Practical patch and strand tests *Using a Cosmetology record card 9. Differentiate among temporary, demi-permanent, semi-permanent, and permanent hair coloring techniques 10. Describe techniques for performing hair lightenening, special effects, and corrective hair coloring 11. Differentiate among types of products used for various classifications of hair coloring 12. Analyze hair and scalp to determine types of hair color applications/ 13. Demonstrate temporary, demi-permanent, semi-permanent, and permanent hair coloring techniques 14. Demonstrate techniques for performing hair lightenening, special effects, and corrective hair coloring
Class Procedures: Students in Cosmetology must follow the following requirements: 1. All students must follow all safety and sanitation procedures at all times. 2. All students must learn and practice professional conduct at all times. 3. Be on time and prepared for class. Students will not be allowed to go to the restroom the first or the last ten minutes of class. (See Student handbook). You are expected to be in your seat when the bells rings! 4. TURN OFF ALL CELL PHONES, iPods, or any other device that resembles these things; put them away before entering the Cosmetology Lab. 5. Class begins and ends with Mrs. Taylor. The bell does not dismiss students from class; Mrs. Taylor dismisses class. 6. Follow all instructions given by your instructor. If you do not understand instructions, please see Mrs. Taylor before continuing. 7. Enter the Cosmetology Lab quietly and report to the classroom and follow the instructions on the whiteboard. 8. Check the dispensary schedule upon entering the classroom daily. All students are assigned Dispensary duties on a rotating schedule. 9. All students are encouraged to ask questions and for help on difficult assignments. Mrs. Taylor will address your concerns when they are brought to her attention. 10. All students must participate in fundraising activities. 11. Check the white board every morning upon entering the classroom. The morning activity will be posted (vocabulary, bell ringer, etc.) These activities will be graded.
