Friable<br />
Friable asbestos<br />
material means any<br />
asbestos-containing<br />
material that hand<br />
pressure can crumble,<br />
pulverize or reduce to<br />
powder when dry.<br />
Friable materials<br />
include, but are not<br />
limited to thermal<br />
insulation, sheet vinyl,<br />
ceiling texture, boiler<br />
insulation, and any<br />
nonfriable material that<br />
is shattered, pulverized,<br />
or caused to release<br />
visible emissions.<br />
Remove and dispose <strong>of</strong><br />
all asbestos material<br />
before any activity that<br />
would disturb the<br />
material or preclude<br />
access to it for future<br />
removal.<br />
DEQ/LRAPA<br />
Nonfriable<br />
Nonfriable asbestos<br />
material means any<br />
asbestos-containing<br />
material that cannot be<br />
crumbled, pulverized, or<br />
reduced to powder by<br />
hand pressure.<br />
Nonfriable material<br />
includes, but is not<br />
limited to vinyl tile<br />
cement siding and<br />
ro<strong>of</strong>ing or any other<br />
material that DEQ<br />
considers encased in<br />
a viable rigid matrix.<br />
Remove all nonfriable<br />
asbestos-containing<br />
material before any<br />
activity that would<br />
disturb the material,<br />
cause the release <strong>of</strong><br />
asbestos fibers into the<br />
air, or preclude access<br />
to the materials for<br />
future removal.<br />
