Accreditation: Administrative Services is responsible for ensuring that all department policies and procedures are in compliance with the standards set by New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services. The accreditation program has long been recognized as a means of maintaining the highest standards of professionalism. The <strong>DeWitt</strong> <strong>Police</strong> <strong>Department</strong> was originally accredited in 1998 and reaccredited in 2003 and 2008. In 2013, our agency will go through another re-accreditation program. Training Unit: The Training Unit staff includes the Captain, two Lieutenants, five Sergeants, Investigator, and five <strong>Of</strong>ficers. This unit develops, implements and evaluates mandated in-service training as well as providing selective topical training. This unit conducted over 48 hours of practical exercise and classroom instruction that all of our officers attended. <strong>Of</strong>ficers also attend numerous local training sessions held throughout the region on various topics. Training this year included instruction on legal updates, Jewish culture, CPEP Overview, Autism in Children, evidence procedures, defensive tactics, workplace ergonomics, firearms, AED/CPR, Four Roll Call Trainings, and Winter EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operations Course). In addition to in-service training, officers are sent to a variety of specialized training schools to enhance their respective duties. In 2011 these include: Radar/Lidar Operator, Search & Seizure, Street Survival, Hotel/Motel Interdiction, Crisis Negotiations, Reid Interview/Interrogation School, Basic Juvenile Investigations, Instructor Development, Sexual Harassment for Supervisors, Investigating Use of Force for Supervisors, Empire State Traffic Safety Conference, and Crime Scene Investigation I. Grant Funding Grant Funding, requires the preparing, budgeting, accounting and fiscal reporting related to grant awards. These awards are received from Local, State and Federal sources. Programs funded by grant monies include Stop DWI, Buckle Up New York, STEP, Youth Grant, JAG Recovery, FJA Grant. Grant managers are also responsible for acquiring new technology for use by all department members. In 2011, the <strong>DeWitt</strong> <strong>Police</strong> <strong>Department</strong> received $25,000 for a marked patrol vehicle for evidence, $14,963 for aircard usage, $14,045 for 3 members to attend tactical training, $12,900 for six ballistic vests, $600 for portable battery rack charger for the Emergency Services Team truck, $504 for six portable radio batteries.
2011 Training: The <strong>DeWitt</strong> <strong>Police</strong> <strong>Department</strong> conducted the following training for its <strong>Of</strong>ficers in 2011. Most of this training is hours per <strong>Of</strong>ficer; an example is Firearms.
