It is the oldest worldwide sporting
event, whose media coverage is
comparable to the Olympic Games.
It is a competition where precision,
technological development and
strategy are decisive factors, making
it a historic milestone of renowned
prestige for the defender of the title
and its challengers.
The organisers consider that Valencia
has the best wind and sea conditions,
as well as being a thriving city with the
necessary infrastructure in order to
hold this sailing event. Hosting the
America’s Cup is the opportunity for
Valencia to open itself up to the sea
for good and to recover the excellence
that the Mediterranean offers to the
urban development of the city.
Known originally as the Hundred
Guinea Cup, and following the victory
of the schooner America in the 1851
regatta, the race had the honour of
calling itself the America’s Cup in 1870.
Until 1983, when the sailing boat
Australia II raised the trophy, the
competition had been won by North
American boats. In the same year the
Louis Vuitton Cup was created, a
preliminary competition that
determined who would challenge the
defender of the trophy. In the Auckland
race of 2003 a European boat, the
Swiss Alinghi, won the America’s Cup
after 152 years of Anglo-Saxon
hegemony. The Swiss team had to
organise the following race in 2007.
However the Deed of Gift, an official
rule of the competition, establishes
that the America’s Cup can only be
contested in salt waters.
Valencia was designated after
a hard fought campaign involving
56 other candidates such as Barcelona,
Naples, Marseille, Palma de Majorca
and Cascais.

The competition calendar in Valencia
began with the Louis Vuitton Acts 2, 3,
4 & 5 -during 2004 and 2005-. In 2006
the Louis Vuitton Acts 10, 11 & 12 will
be contested. The last act will be held
in Valencian waters in 2007, Act 14,
which will then herald the long awaited
Louis Vuitton Cup, followed by the
America’s Cup, as from June, when the
Alinghi will have to fight to defend
its title.
This competition is a unique
opportunity to promote sailing in the
Region of Valencia. The effort put into
this event is favoured by optimum
weather conditions, with an annual
average temperature of over 17 º C,
a strategic location and investment,
and this winning combination
will make the Valencian seaboard
the sporting harbour for the Spanish
and Europeans alike.
The challenge of the America’s Cup can
already be felt in all sailing clubs,
marinas, sailing schools and other
sailing facilities along the five-hundred
kilometre-long coastline of the Region
of Valencia.
No doubt the America’s Cup will have
a before and after which is why Valencia
and the entire region is so immersed
in what is more than a mere sporting
event. This land is ready to take on the
prominence it deserves and play its
own role in this competition as an axis
of cultures and values.

The City of Arts and Sciences in
Valencia is in itself a spectacle for the
eyes. It is “the most lively city in the
world” and a reference point for leisure
in the XXI century with infinite
possibilities and activities for visitors.
The avant-garde image of the buildings
that make up this impressive centre for
leisure and culture, designed by
Santiago Calatrava, is complemented
with the attractive contents of the
Hemisfèric and the Museu de les
Ciències Príncipe Felipe, the
Oceanogràfic and the Palau de les Arts
Reina Sofía.
The Hemisfèric offers exciting sessions
at a latest-generation Imax Cinema with
films that make one experience the
most vertiginous of sensations, a
planetarium and a laser show, as well
as serving as the ideal platform for all
kinds of events.
The Museu de les Ciències Príncipe
Felipe is housed in a magnificent
building, whose imposing hall is its
main attraction, and offers varied and
interesting interactive scientific
exhibitions under the slogan “No
touching is forbidden”, thus turning
the visitor into the protagonist. It is
also a venue for prominent meetings,
seminars and international forums.
The Oceanogràfic is an oceanographic
park that gathers examples of flora and
fauna of the principal marine
ecosystems of the planet -from the
Atlantic, the Mediterranean and
continental waters to the frozen seas
of the Arctic and Antarctic, through to
warm and tropical habitats, where the
visitor can see species such as
walruses and beluga whales at close
range. Visitors can get their strength
back in an impressive underwater
restaurant.
The Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía
is one of the largest spaces devoted to
the performing arts in the whole world.
It can house various kinds of artistic
and cultural performances such as
concerts or operatic performances,
dance or theatre from the principal
international cultural circuits in an
avant-garde setting and it serves as a
landmark for the city of Valencia. As
well as the Main Hall, the spectacular
75-metre high building also houses
spaces such as the Master Room, the
Amphitheatre and the Chamber Theatre
that allow performances of all genres
of classical and contemporary art and
a host of associated cultural activities.
Terra Mítica is one of the few parks
that can be considered thematic in
Europe. Incredible rides and shows
turn it into a fascinating place where
time ceases to exist. One can intensely
live the mysteries of the oldest and
most legendary civilizations of the
Mediterranean by travelling across the
five areas (Egypt, Greece, Rome,
Iberia and The Islands) that make up
the park in Benidorm.
The theme park is designed for the
general public, the daring and the
curious, and it doesn’t matter how old
you are or where you are from, as all
that matters is the desire to have a
good time. With Benidorm’s favourable
weather, the visitor can enjoy a varied
offer of rides and shows, together with
a wide selection of bars and
restaurants, shops and a customer
service office. Next to Terra Mítica in
Benidorm, the Naturaleza Terra
Natura park also offers a journey of
adventure into the exciting world of
exotic animals.

The cultural Project of Castellón
combines leisure with spectacle.
The restored Teatro Principal offers
performances in an emblematic space
for the performing arts in the capital
of La Plana. The Espai d’Art
Contemporani houses avant-garde
exhibitions from the most prestigious
national and international artists.
The Museu de Belles Arts offers a
retrospective view of the voluminous
and valuable historic and patrimonial
wealth of the province. Let us not forget
the Auditoriums and Conference
Centres in Castellón and Peñíscola,
which were incorporated into the
Project as attractive venues for musical
performances, audiovisual shows and
with a view to consolidating business
tourism as a quality product in the
Castellón offer.
In addition, it is a privilege to be able
to follow the events of the world
calendar of motorcycling at the Region
of Valencia “Ricardo Tormo” Racing
Circuit, whose advanced design
delights fans with its spectacular
visibility. The racing circuit
boasts a sporting calendar
full of all kinds of competitions
throughout the year and is the stuff
of champions.
Let us not forget the City of Light in
Alicante; a centre for cinematographic
fun and culture, proposed as the most
modern audiovisual complex in Europe
with the greatest range of services for
national and international productions
of films and series. Moreover, there is
the City of Performing Arts in Sagunto,
which continues a tradition that started
over 2.000 years ago in the Roman
theatre of this historic city. It offers
spectacular artistic performances in
the historic-industrial complex of the
former iron foundry of the
Mediterranean with leading actors
from the international stage.

Prat de Cabanes-Torreblanca
Nature Park
This is a flat coastal area separated
from the sea by a narrow strip of
shingle and sand. It is the major
wetland area in Castellón province and
considered highly valuable owing to
its unique plant and animal population.
Desert de les Palmes Nature Park
Located in the municipal areas of
Benicàssim, Cabanes, la Pobla Tornesa,
Borriol and Castellón de la Plana, this
scenic nature reserve featuring a “palm
tree desert” has an area of 2,000 Ha
and forms part of the mountain range
that runs parallel to the coast.
23,255 km 2 of scenery. From the shores
of the Mediterranean to the grandiose
sierras of the interior, the Region of
Valencia gives you the chance to enjoy
a wide variety of natural surroundings:
endless beaches, hidden coves,
marshlands, rice paddies, salt flats,
Mediterranean forests, deep ravines
and gorges sculpted by mountain
streams... Lots of space for
nature lovers.
From north to south, there are
seventeen natural parks and three
protected natural marine reserves that
have unique species of Mediterranean
flora and fauna.
Islas Columbretes Nature Park
The archipelago of the Columbretes
islands is located 30 miles off the coast
of Castellón. These volcanic islands are
of great ecological value and are
unique in the entire Mediterranean
basin. They have been carved by the
wind and sea into curious shapes, like
the interconnected craters on Isla
Grossa and the central chimney of the
ancient Carallot volcano. The
Columbretes islands have also been
declared Natural Marine Reserve.
Sierra de Irta Nature Park
Small 12,000 Ha area with typically
Mediterranean vegetation and fauna.
The abrupt mountain slopes drop
gently to the sea along 12 km of
practically virgin coastline. The Torre
Badum cliff is the second highest in
the Region of Valencia, serving as a
nesting site for seagulls and shags.

Sierra Espadán Nature Park
This nature park is covered in valuable
cork oak groves and pine trees. The
park is dotted with tiny villages with
Morisco reminiscences and an
interesting cultural heritage: castles,
the town of Jínquer, and Roman ruins...
Local fauna include eagles, badgers,
foxes, genets and stone martens.
Sierra Calderona Nature Park
The Calderona nature park is located
in the province of Valencia, flanked by
the Palancia and the Turia river valleys.
It has rugged terrain with sandstone
and limestone formations, and an
abundance of pines and a few cork
oaks. The quiet valleys in the areas are
sprinkled with historic monasteries. Of
note are the Garbí and Gorgo peaks,
with magnificent lookout points over
the neighbouring districts.
La Albufera Nature Park
This is the major wetland area in the
Region of Valencia, both because of its
size (21,000 Ha) and its ecological
value. It serves as a principal stopover
and a nesting area for water birds. It
has four distinct habitats with their
own plant and animal life: the shoal or
sandbar, the marsh, the lagoon and
the forest area. Traditional activities
are fishing and rice growing.
Pego-Oliva Marshland Nature Park
This is another important wetland area
in the Region of Valencia owing to the
variety of its submarine life. Extending
over 1,290 Ha, the park includes the
river Bullent-Vedat and the southern
slope of the Mustalla sierra, the
marshland, the coastal sand dunes and
the river Molinell Racons.
El Montgó Nature Park
The Montgó massif rises up to 750 m
just off the coast between Dénia and
Xàbia. This impressive mountain with
its own peculiar eco-systems runs
parallel to the coast and descends to
Cape San Antonio.
The Rock of Ifach Nature Park
This enormous mass of calcareous rock
measuring some 50,000 m 2 stands on
the coast, towering to 332 m in height.
It is joined to the mainland by a narrow
isthmus. Ifach is noted for its
autochthonous rock plant life, some of
which is unique to this area.
The Santa Pola Salt Flats Nature Park
With a surface area of 2,470 Ha, this
natural park presents a perfect example
of the integration of traditional
economic activities, such as salt
manufacturing, and the preservation
of a wetland area serving as a habitat
for many species of waterbirds.
El Hondo Nature Park
This nature park has an area of 2,380
Ha and is made up of a series of
marshes which are similar to each other
but offer different habitats depending
on the depth and quality of their
waters.

La Mata and Torrevieja Salt Flats
Nature Park
These salt flats, together with those of
El Hondo and Santa Pola, form a
wetland triangle which is of great
importance for migratory birds. With
an area of 3,700 Ha, these lagoons are
used as nesting sites and wintering
areas for over one hundred species of
water birds.
El Carrascar de la Font Roja
Nature Park
In the hinterlands of Alicante province,
between the towns of Alcoi and bi, this
nature park offers fine landscape
featuring Mediterranean pines and
shrubbery of great botanical interest.
The history of this park dates back to
the 14th century.
Sierra Mariola Nature Park
The Sierra Mariola is a mountainous
area located between the provinces of
Valencia and Alicante. Botanically it is
very interesting because it is a natural
habitat for numerous medicinal and
aromatic plants, and contains
noteworthy pine forest areas scattered
with oaks, maples, ashes and teaks.
There are both man-made and natural
caves and curious snow wells once
used for storing winter snow for ice
production for local consumption.
Hoces del Cabriel Nature Park
This is the largest nature park in the
Region of Valencia, covering an area of
31,446 Ha. The Cabriel river forms the
backbone of the park, which serves as
a natural boundary between the Region
of Valencia and the region of Castilla
La Mancha. The Cabriel valley is the
best conserved riverside forest in the
Region of Valencia and is made up of
poplar, willow and tamarind groves.
The fauna is of exceptional interest,
both for the crag and cliff habitats
where birds of prey are predominant
and for the river, with its otters and
indigenous crabs.
Serra Gelada Nature Park
The Serra Gelada Nature Park covers
the municipal district of Benidorm and
L’Alfàs del Pi, the sea and islands
around these and also around Altea.
It also includes the Gelada Mountains
that run along the coast, the offshore
islands and sea beds, which are
protected for their outstanding
environmental value. The park has
three specially protected areas, which
consist of the Gelada cliffs, the entire
Mitjana Island and certain areas of the
illots (islets) of Benidorm and l’Olla.

Natural Marine Reserve of the Island
of Tabarca
Tabarca is located about three miles
south-west of the cape of Santa Pola
and some 8 miles from the city of
Alicante, the municipal district to which
it belongs. It is about 2 kilometres long
and 400 metres wide. The path that
goes round the island allows one to
contemplate the coastal scenery and
to follow the movements of marine
birds. Its crystal clear waters, abundant
fauna and flora and seabed, highly
prized by scuba diving enthusiasts,
proved decisive in its being declared a
Marine Reserve in 1986.
Natural Marine Reserve
of the cape of San Antonio
The Marine Reserve of the cape of San
Antonio is on the coast north of
Alicante, between the towns of Dénia
and Xàbia. Its cliffs, some of which are
over 150 metres high, confer the
scenery with spectacular beauty. It
possesses a varied underwater
topography where there is an excellent
representation of a great number of
species linked to these rocky coasts,
making the Reserve highly interesting
in terms of ecology, science, scenery
and recreation.
Elx Palm Grove
The historic and monumental town of
Elx and its Palmeral, a group of palm
groves spread over an area of 5
kilometres and with over 200,000 palm
trees, offers extremely beautiful
scenery. Considered the largest in
Europe, the Palmeral that surrounds
the historic quarters occupies an area
2 kilometres long by 1 kilometre wide.
It was declared Patrimony of Humanity
in the year 2000.

632 km of coastline, where you can
enjoy everything the sea has to offer.
Clean, transparent waters caress the
land’s beaches, covered in fine, golden
sands or wave-worn shingles.
Impressive cliffs dominate the horizon,
watching over solitary coves.
You can enjoy warm water
temperatures in summer and autumn,
and excellent solariums in winter. You
have a wide variety of beaches to
choose from: quiet, family beaches;
bustling, cosmopolitan beaches;
isolated coves hidden under towering
cliffs; beaches on the shores of the city.
In the Region of Valencia you can
sunbathe or swim at beaches
internationally known for their quality,
like Benidorm; beaches with golden
sands like Gandia, Guardamar, Oropesa
del Mar, Alicante or Sagunto; fine
beauty spots, such as Peñíscola, with
the castle of Pope Pedro de Luna
(Benedict XIII) in the background;
hidden coves in Benissa and
Teulada/Moraira and Xàbia...
They all form a coastline sharing one
common feature: clean water and welltended
beaches with a range of
services. Each year the EU awards blue
flags for the region’s clean beaches,
making the Region of Valencia one of
the tourist areas with the most blue
flags in Europe.
During the summer months you can
find out about the state of the beaches
by phoning 900 21 07 63.

Bright lights, roaring fires, gunpowder
and theatrics are key elements in
Valencian festivities. Over 600 popular
fiestas are held in the Region of
Valencia each year – fiestas which are
meant to be held in the streets, for
everybody to enjoy. Tourist Information
Offices can provide you with a full lineup
to choose from.
You might enjoy...
The fire fiestas: The spectacular Fallas
of Valencia (12-19 March), the Fogueres
de Sant Joan in Alicante (17-24 June)
and the Santantonadas in Forcall (17
January). The Moors and Christians in
Alcoi (22-25 April), also held in many
other towns in Alicante province, and
in the interior of the provinces of
Valencia and Castellón.
The religious festivals: the Les Useres
pilgrimage (last Friday of April); The
Mystery of Elx (14-15 August) and the
Holy Week and Corpus Christi
processions.
In addition, the Magdalena feast (third
Sunday of Lent in Castellón), the
Rosario Marinero de la Aurora (in
Cullera on the second Sunday after
Easter), the Requena Grape Harvest
and Castellón.
Moors and Christians
This celebration has become a highly
popular and spectacular festivity
because of the many attractions it offers
to both participants and spectators:
farce, disguises, traditional costumes,
music and gunpowder. The age-old
tradition of the battles between the
believers in the Crescent Moon and the
followers of the Cross are portrayed year
after year in colourful parades featuring
local people dressed as Moors and
Christians, beating on timbals and
blowing pipes called “chirimias”,
shooting blunderbusses and flashing
shining swords and scimitars. The largest
feast is held in the town of Alcoi, in the
month of April, although there are many
other celebrations throughout the year,
such as in Biar, Ontinyent, Bocairent, la
Vila Joiosa, Alicante, Callosa d’En Sarrià,
Xixona, Cocentaina, Villena, Elda, Petrer,
Benidorm, Crevillent, Banyeres de
Mariola, Albaida, Sax, l'Olleria, etc.
Las Fallas
These are the unparalleled fire feasts,
signifying renovation, spring cleaning,
the change of the seasons. “Fallas” are
huge, float-like figurines assembled in
the street, full of satire and humour, and
peopled with baroque figurines called
ninots. Valencia holds these festivities
honouring St Joseph from 12 to 19 March,
and many other towns in the region do
likewise, such as Alzira, Benetússer,
Cullera, Benicarló, Benidorm, Burriana,
Dénia, Elda, Gandia, Sagunto, Torrent,
la Vall d'Uixó, Xàtiva...

Les Fogueres de Sant Joan
On the night of 24 June bonfires are lit
everywhere. This solstice celebration is
full of fun and festivities, with parades,
dances, and a full range of firework
displays. Streets and squares fill with
people, and music and the smell of
gunpowder float through the night air, as
the bonfires keep their tryst with the feast
of St John each year. In the city of Alicante,
the highpoint is reached on the night of
24 June, when from the summit of mount
Benacantil, a majestic firework display
imitating a palm tree is set off, embracing
the entire bay of the city.
La Magdalena
This is held on the third Sunday of Lent
in Castellón, with a number of traditional
parades and ceremonies such as the
pregó, the pilgrimage to the chapel, les
gaietes, dances, processions, etc. The
gaietes parade is a unique celebration
combining art and glowing lanterns to
mark the founding of the city.
The Mystery of Elx
The Mystery of Elx, now a UNESCO World
Heritage event as of 2001, is a festivity
listed as being of international tourist
interest, consisting of a sacred/lyrical
drama inherited from the 15th century
where actors perform the last few days of
the Virgin Mary, her death, her ascension
to heaven and her coronation. Popularly
known as the “Festa” or “Feast”, it is
traditionally held on two successive days,
August 14 and 15, in the Basilica of the
Assumption of Saint Mary of Elx and is
the only play of medieval origin permitted
in the interior of the Catholic temple,
having survived down through the ages
to our day. On even-numbered years there
are extraordinary performances on 29 and
30 October, and on 1 November.
La Tomatina
Part of the High Feasts of the town of
Buñol, in August. A festival in which tons
and tons of tomatoes are thrown around
the main square. It is listed as a fiesta of
international tourist interest in view of its
peculiarly.

On the coast, numerous nautical and
recreational facilities provide you with
the opportunity to make the most of
the sea: swimming, water skiing,
sailing, windsurfing, fishing,
snorkelling, rowing, and a full calendar
of regattas and competitions.
The Region of Valencia has 21 golf
courses equipped with the finest
services and facilities. All are set in
prime locations and have made the
region one of the world's best locations
for golf enthusiasts.
People looking for thrills and adventure
can try other sports in the hinterlands,
such as mountaineering, cycling, riding,
piloting, rafting, and more.
For further information on adventure
sports, contact the IVAJ (Valencia Youth
Institute) on phone 012 and ask about
activities being programmed.

The Region of Valencia keeps its rich,
age-old craft tradition alive, handed
down from father to son. In local shops
and specialized stores you can find folk
art objects of exceptional beauty.
The towns of Paterna, Manises, Biar,
Agost, Alcora and Onda are the
birthplaces of ceramic wares, each with
their own distinctive style. Gata de
Gorgos, Vallada and Moixent produce
original articles made from wicker,
esparto grass, palm leaves and cane.
L’Olleria is famous for cut glassware
and crystal, Elx for its original palmleaf
creations, and the towns of
Morella, Monóvar, Novelda
and El Castell de Guadalest for their
artistic textiles. In Jarafuel and Segorbe
you can buy fine, handmade walking
sticks, and for hot summer days, why
not use an authentic handmade fan
from Valencia or Aldaia.

The Region of Valencia has gained a
deserved place in the annals of
cookery thanks to its world-famous
paella, the queen of regional cuisine.
But the culinary delights certainly don’t
end here. Apart from this traditional
dish combining products from the land
and the sea, each town and village has
its own variation on the rice theme. In
fact, there are thousands of ways to
prepare local rice: arròs negre (with
squid), caldoso (stewed), al horno
(oven-baked), a la marinera
(fisherman’s style), con costra (with
omelette topping), rossejat (with chick
peas), etc.
Then come the fresh vegetables from
the local gardens, the huertas, and fresh
fish and shellfish, plus game, “free
range” poultry, all used as ingredients
for old recipes which have stood the test
of time. Restaurants offer dishes such
as fideuà, gazpachos, sausages, all i
pebre, cruet de peix, dried fish roe, etc.
Fresh oranges, table grapes from
Vinalopó, medlars from Callosa d’En
Sarrià or cherries from the Alicante
mountain orchards are good for dessert.
Or perhaps some turrón, arnadí, icecream
or horchata from Alboraya.
To accompany fine meals, nothing better
than some red and young rosé wines
from Utiel-Requena, or “cava” or
sparkling wine, a sweet Fondillón from
Alicante, or crisp white wines from the
Alto Turia, plus the traditional Alicante
liqueurs known as herbero and cafélicor.
These wines all have their
“denominación de origen”: Alicante,
Utiel-Requena and Valencia.

A country house, hostel or small
charming hotel are alternative
accommodations that enable you to
discover the inland region and the way
of life of local inhabitants. During your
stay you can enjoy all sorts of activities
such as hiking, mountain biking, horse
riding, ravine descents, climbing and
even craft workshops.
In Castellón, the scenic mountain area
known as La Tinença de Benifassá, an
outstanding ecological niche, has
secluded villages with valuable cultural
legacies; the Els Ports-Maestrat district
presents scenery that combines natural
elements with man-made constructions
that reflect the course of history; at the
foot of the Penyagolosa, the most
emblematic peak in Valencian
territory at 1,814 m, there is a rural
environment full of ancient customs;
the Alto Mijares district, located around
the river that bears its name, is well
suited for nature, sports and health
tourism, with an array of local crafts;
the Alto Palancia district has a
landscape where water takes pride of
place, an important historic and artistic
heritage and mountain ranges wedged
between nature reserves.

In Valencia, the mountainous Rincón
de Ademuz lies farthest from the
coast, presenting rural landscape
highlighted by lofty peaks covered in
splendid forests; the Calderona Sierra
has picturesque mountains with a
special kind of charm where you can
do some hiking and reach lookout
points from which you gain a good
view of the coast, the Serranos/Alto
Turia district and lots of forest land
close to the Turia river running through
a narrow valley, past small towns and
villages with interesting sights and
old historic quarters; La Plana de
Requena-Utiel offers the landscape
of the Castilian meseta surrounded
by mountain ranges, a wine-making
district with fiestas, culture and history
seasoned with a rich cuisine; La Hoya
de Buñol marks the rise from the coast
towards the meseta, with rivers
providing good opportunities for
aquatics and mountain ranges
concealing attractive caves; El Valle
de Ayora has potholes and cavities of
geological interest and the entire
region presents a colourful landscape
varying from ochre to red and
inhabited by unique animal species;
La Canal de Navarrés boasts a rugged
beauty with a mosaic of fields and
crops, prehistoric rock shelters, river
canyons and outstanding traditional
architecture; La Costera-La Vall
d’Albaida has a succession of rural
landscapes where fruit trees
predominate, inhabited since
antiquity as evidenced by the
abundant historic and artistic
heritage of the towns and villages
in this district.

In Alicante, the nature park area
known as La Serra Mariola is a highly
valued cultural and environmental
paradise, providing natural shade for
towns and villages offering crafts,
fiestas and traditional cuisine; Les
Valls de la Marina, with a strong
Morisco flavour, penetrate inland
flanked by magnificent limestone
mountains with unique plant species
and mountaintop castles; La Serra
d’Aitana descends towards the sea,
giving rise to a constantly changing
landscape dotted with friendly little
villages connected via hiking trails;
the Vinalopó Castles area is a
storehouse of historic features of the
region, overlooking towns and villages
with important cultural treasures; the
Baix Vinalopó-Vega Baja are lowlands
with hills and hillocks that provide
excellent panoramas, wetlands highly
valued for their scenery and for the
presence of migratory birds, an
extensive palm tree plantation, the
only one of its kind in Europe, and
monumental towns whose history
dates back to the first settlements
on the peninsula.

For hiking fans there is a complete
network of well-signposted Long-
Distance (GR7, GR10, GR33, GR36 and
GR37) and Short-Distance Routes (267)
(Senderos de Gran Recorrido y de
Pequeño Recorrido) which cross the
Region of Valencia from north to south
and from east to west, linking various
towns. There are many outdoor sports
to practise: canoeing, mountain
climbing and walking, sports and
classical climbing, ravine descents, road
and mountain bike excursions, delta
wing, hang gliding, ultralight aircraft
and ballooning, among others.
The organizers of these activities can
be contacted through tourist
information offices.

Barbara castle perched on the city’s hilltop,
to St Nicholas or the ancient church of
St Mary; museums such as the Provincial
Archaeological Museum (MARQ) or the
Gravina Fine Arts Museum (MUBAG),
boasting the latest equipment for eyecatching
exhibitions, to mention only a few
of the main attractions that tourists will find
in this city.

Moreover, Alicante offers
a patchwork of different scenes for rest
and relaxation: the Explanada
Promenade along the seafront and
harbour, the bar and tavern scene in
the old quarter, known as “El Barrio”,
and countless other activities such as
festivities, music, theatre and
exhibitions throughout the year.
This gives the city a good lineup of
complementary attractions for visitors,
either for work or play, in addition
to its well-consolidated
“sun and fun” offers.
Castellón offers an intense cultural life
that the city cultural project continues
to expand. Plays at the Principal
Theatre, avant-garde exhibitions
entertaining city where everything is
close at hand, enhanced by
the modern internationalist mindset
of its people.
