Kate Lamont - Chairman
Tourism Western Australia
Chef and restaurant owner Clint Nolan made the
move from Melbourne to Western Australia over
three years ago. Opening Harvest restaurant in
North Fremantle fulfilled his dream of operating
a quality neighbourhood restaurant.
“My business partner Miles and I dreamed of opening a
venue that we would like to eat at - a place that served
interesting food with wine from smaller producers,
presented by professional unpretentious wait staff in
a funky relaxed environment with cool art and tunes.
“Building Harvest is my greatest achievement in almost
18 years in the industry. I started as a storeroom hand
in a hotel at the age of 15 then completed a four-year
apprenticeship at a five-star hotel.
“WA is a great place to work and live. Perth’s growing
and it’s an awesome time to be here in business.
“And the lifestyle is more relaxed. To me it’s epitomised
by camping at Yallingup, eating a barbecue dinner and
watching the sun set over the ocean. Just beautiful”
Elisa Kolln came to Western Australia on a round-
Australia adventure. Her job at Cable Beach Club
Resort in Broome has given her career advancement
and the chance to experience an excitingly different
environment.
“I did a Bachelor of Business in Hotel Management
in Sydney then worked on Hayman Island. My partner
and I wanted to see Australia. We drove across the
north, down to Uluru.
“I started at Cable Beach Club Resort Broome in
food and beverage and then transferred to human
resources. As HR coordinator I deal with a range of
issues including recruitment, dealing with employee
issues and staff accommodation. It’s very good
experience and really interesting – there’s never a
dull day!
“I want to stay in HR in the tourism industry and later on
I hope to work with local councils on sustainable tourism.
“The best thing is getting out and experiencing
Australia. You have to know your product and
experience it yourself to share it with your guests.
“WA is different. The drive along the huge expanse
of coast was amazing – Coral Bay, Exmouth, and
seeing the sun set over the water. I’m looking forward
to going to the Bungle Bungles – I’m interested in
Aboriginal heritage.
“It’s the same country but with a different feel to it.”
