College of Business Students Get a Lesson
in Dining Etiquette
The slogan was “It’s the poise that pays!” On Wednesday, April 9, business students had an opportunity to put
that poise into practice at the business etiquette dinner in the Cody Executive Suite in the Roaden University Center on
the TTU Campus. The dinner was sponsored by 21st Mortgage Corporation, The College of Business Student to Career
Program and Alpha Kappa Psi Business Fraternity, and was intended for business students to gain experience with dining
in a business professional setting.
Student to Career Program Coordinator
Amy Jo Carpenter states, “Many of our
students will experience business interviews
over meals and/or attend an event that involves
a meal with a potential employer as they search
for employment; our manners speak volumes
about us as professionals. I want our students
to feel comfortable with themselves in those
situations and hope this event will provide them
with some insight and practice in the process.”
This is the first year the College of Business
Student to Career Program has sponsored an
etiquette dinner, and the college hopes to make
it an annual tradition. “Any time that we can give our business students an opportunity to function in a business
professional situation is an opportunity that contributes to their future success,” says Carpenter.
The evening consisted of foods
provided by Chartwell’s Dining Services
including hors d’oeuvres, salad, a full meal
course and dessert. Guest speakers were
Chartwell’s Executive Chef Joe Distilio,
Dining Services Director Sam Holm, and
Director of Catering Victor Kline. The
corporate sponsor, Gene Crabtree from 21st
Mortgage Corporation, also gave some dining
interview tips.
Each student who attended the dinner
received a printed nametag and booklet with
helpful dining etiquette tips and pointers.
The etiquette dinner preceded the College
of Business Student Career Fair that took
place on TTU Campus April 9 from 10 a.m.-
3 p.m. in the Roaden University Center.
