COLLEGE OF BUSINESS 2008-2009 HIGHLIGHTS<br />
Faculty Research<br />
• The COB faculty had a very productive year with<br />
91articles and other creative works published, 70 works<br />
in process, 43 presentations made at regional or national<br />
meetings, and 55 faculty extension and outreach activities<br />
related to field of expertise.<br />
• Dr. Ismet Anitsal had seven refereed publications and<br />
has nine working papers in progress. He and Dr. Meral<br />
Anitsal were the recipients of four research grants.<br />
• Dr. Meral Anitsal had six refereed publications. She<br />
also has eleven working papers in progress.<br />
• Dr. Deborah Ballou and Dr. Brian Huguenard<br />
published a paper in the Journal of Information Systems<br />
Education.<br />
• Dr. Deborah Ballou and Dr. Brian Huguenard<br />
published in the 2008 ACM SIGMIS Computer<br />
Personnel Research Conference Proceedings.<br />
• Dr. Bonita Barger published papers in the Journal of<br />
International Business and Cultural Studies, the Academy<br />
of Educational Leadership Journal, and the International<br />
College Teaching Methods and Styles Journal. She also<br />
received the Distinguished Research Award for a paper<br />
published in the Allied Academies Spring 2009.<br />
• Dr. Ferdinand DiFurio had one refereed journal<br />
publication and made two paper presentations at<br />
academic and professional meetings.<br />
• Dr. Melanie Earles published two articles in Journal of<br />
Accountancy.<br />
• Drs. Melanie Earles and Deryl Martin published an<br />
article in Valuation Strategies.<br />
• Drs. Robert Elmore, Ismet Anitisal, and Meral Anitisal<br />
published an article in the Proceedings of the Academy of<br />
Students preparing to leave for Nashville Career Fair<br />
Educational Leadership, Allied Academies International<br />
Conference.<br />
• Drs. Robert Elmore, Ismet Anitisal, and Virginia<br />
Moore were published in the Conference Proceedings,<br />
International Academy of Business and Public<br />
Administrative Disciplines Conference.<br />
• Drs. R. Dan Fesler and Richard Rand published an<br />
article in Today’s CPA.<br />
• Drs. R. Dan Fesler and Richard Rand, along with<br />
student Brittany Stringfield, were published in 2008<br />
Proceedings of the Southeast Regional Meeting of the<br />
American Accounting Association.<br />
• Drs. Dan Fesler and Beth Howard had an article<br />
published in Journal of Accountancy.<br />
• Dr. Dan Fesler authored several Tax Columns for<br />
Upper Cumberland Newspapers.<br />
• Drs. Tor Guimaraes, Curtis Armstrong, and Brian<br />
Jones published a paper in Quality Management Journal.<br />
• Dr. Tor Guimaraes published papers in International<br />
Journal of the Academic Business World and International<br />
Journal of Health Care Quality Assurance.<br />
• Dr. Jon Jonakin had one refereed journal publication<br />
and presented a paper at the Latin American Studies<br />
Association in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, June 2009.<br />
• Dr. Deryl Martin had one refereed journal publication,<br />
and he presented a paper at the Southwestern Finance<br />
Association meeting in Houston. He was also a session<br />
chair for the Southwestern Finance Association.<br />
• Dr. Nat Natarajan’s paper “Six Sigma in Services –<br />
Challenges and Opportunities” (with Jason Morse) will<br />
be published in International Journal of Productivity and<br />
Quality Management. Dr. Nat Natarajan also published<br />
a paper in the International Journal of Productivity and<br />
Quality Management.<br />
• Dr. Mary Pashley has one working paper in progress.<br />
• Dr. Julie Pharr had one paper included in the<br />
proceedings of a professional meeting. She also presented<br />
two papers. One was presented at the 20th Anniversary<br />
of the Oxford Roundtable, Queen’s College, Oxford<br />
<strong>University</strong>, U.K.<br />
• Dr. Magdalena Rappl had two refereed journal<br />
publications and presented three papers at professional<br />
meetings. She had three papers included in the<br />
