…this year’s autumn winds are not just a moderate breeze. The matching theme of CEPE’s<br />
Annual Conference & General Assembly 2009 in Budapest, Hungary, read therefore “Repositioning<br />
in the economic headwind”. During their presentations, the speakers shared their<br />
views on the future market development of the <strong>European</strong> paint and <strong>coatings</strong> industry. The<br />
tenor was that the industry will likely face more headwind than tailwind (page 44).<br />
PPG Architectural <strong>Coatings</strong> Hungary, better known under its brand name “Trilak”, has its headquarters<br />
also in Budapest. The <strong>com</strong>pany portrait (page 10) shows how the architectural <strong>coatings</strong><br />
producer will position itself to gain further market shares in the East.<br />

Autumn’s winds and rains disperse dust and dirt which may cause abrasion or other damage<br />
to coated surfaces. The difficulty to formulate <strong>coatings</strong> which are able to retain easy-clean<br />
or stay-clean properties is the focus of the article by Steven R. Block et al. (page 38), which<br />
describes three approaches to create <strong>coatings</strong> of this type. <br />
