GUIDELINES FOR SELECTING AN UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMME<br />

1. All first degree programmes of study are of four (4) years duration<br />

2. Minimum/General <strong>Entry</strong> <strong>Requirements</strong><br />

• WASSCE/SSSCE SSSCE APPLICANTS<br />

An applic<strong>an</strong>t <strong>for</strong> admission to a degree programme in the University must have CREDITS in the<br />

THREE WASSCE/SSSCE Core Subjects (English L<strong>an</strong>guage, Mathematics <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> Integrated Science), <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong><br />

CREDITS in THREE WASSCE/SSSCE Elective Subjects or its equivalent relev<strong>an</strong>t to the chosen


programme with aggregate 24 or better (WASSCE: A1 - C6/SSSCE A-D) A<br />

D7, E8 & F9 ARE NOT<br />

ACCEPTABLE FOR ADMISSION PURPOSES.<br />

** It is worth noting that the THREE CORE C<br />

• GENERAL BUSINESS CERTIFICATE EXAMINATION (GBCE)<br />

Applic<strong>an</strong>ts must have passes in THREECompulsory Subjects including English L<strong>an</strong>guage <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> passes<br />

in THREE Elective Subjects including Business Mathematics.<br />

• ADVANCED LEVEL/MATURE APPLICANTS<br />

Applic<strong>an</strong>ts must have FIVE credits at the GCE O’ Level including English L<strong>an</strong>guage <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> Mathematics<br />

(or its approved equivalent), plus passes in at least TWOsubjects at the Adv<strong>an</strong>ced Level/Three<br />

Credits in the case of mature applic<strong>an</strong>ts. In addition, the applic<strong>an</strong>t must fulfill the appropriate<br />

Faculty or Departmental requirements.<br />

• ADVANCED BUSINESS CERTIFICATE EXAMINATION (ABCE)<br />

break. Other Diploma holders may be admitted after a minimum of TWO (2) years Post Diploma field<br />

experience.<br />

For (h) Mature Applic<strong>an</strong>ts with Certificate in Forestry must have attained the age of 25 years at the time<br />

of submitting the Application Forms <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> a minimum of Two Years post qualification experience in a<br />

related field of Natural Resources M<strong>an</strong>agement.<br />

Additionally, Applic<strong>an</strong>ts must have Five (5) credits at O’ Level including English L<strong>an</strong>guage, Mathematics,<br />

<strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> Three of the following: Chemistry <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> Physics, Biology or Additional General Science or General<br />

Science.<br />

Science), obtain credits in Chemistry plus either Physics, or Mathematics <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong><br />

must have a minimum of C (<strong>for</strong> SSSCE applic<strong>an</strong>ts) <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> B3 (<strong>for</strong> WASSCE Applic<strong>an</strong>ts)<br />

in Integrated Science.<br />

Applic<strong>an</strong>t with the SSSCE/WASSCE certificate (General Art Option) must in addition<br />

to credit in the three core subjects (English L<strong>an</strong>guage, Mathematics <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> Intergraded<br />

Science), obtain credits in Economics, Geography <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> Elective Mathematics.<br />

Applic<strong>an</strong>ts with this combination must have a minimum of C (<strong>for</strong> SSSCE applic<strong>an</strong>ts)<br />

<strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> B3 (<strong>for</strong> WASSCE Applic<strong>an</strong>ts) in Integrated Science.<br />

BSc. AQUACULTURE AND WATER RESOURCE MANAGEMENT<br />

<strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> Mathematics Biology, Chemistry <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> Physic, plus passes in at least TWO subjects<br />

at the Adv<strong>an</strong>ced Level. Applic<strong>an</strong>ts with Agricultural Science or Mathematics must<br />

have a credit in O’Level Biology.<br />

Mature Applic<strong>an</strong>ts must have attained the age of 25 years at the time of submitting the<br />

application <strong>for</strong>ms.<br />

Higher National Diploma <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> Other Diploma Holders<br />

Applic<strong>an</strong>ts who have a relev<strong>an</strong>t Diploma with Distinction may be admitted to Year<br />

Two of the programme after successful completion of their National Service. Other<br />

categories of relev<strong>an</strong>t Diploma holders may be admitted following Two (2)<br />

yearsWork Experience <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> subsequent interview or selection examination as may<br />

be deemed necessary. HND holders must have met all the requisite passes in English<br />

L<strong>an</strong>guage, Mathematics <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> Intergraded Science at GCE O’Level<br />

Level, WASSCE or<br />

equivalent.


1.0. BFA. PAINTING & SCULPTURE<br />

COLLEGE OF ART AND SOCIAL SCIENCES<br />

1.1. Credits in THREEVisual Arts Elective Subjects, General Knowledge in Art, Picture Making <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong>/or<br />

Sculpture <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> <strong>an</strong>y other Visual Art subject.<br />

1.2. ‘A’LEVEL APPLICANTS<br />

At least TWO passes at A’ Level including Art. Preference will be given to applic<strong>an</strong>ts with<br />

THREE(3) passes at the A’ Level with grade A or B in Art.<br />

1.3. MATURE APPLICANTS<br />

Applic<strong>an</strong>ts must have attained the age of 25 years at the time of submitting the application, with<br />

at least THREE (3) years working experience.<br />

EITHER<br />

FIVE (5) credits at O’Level including Art, English L<strong>an</strong>guage <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> Mathematics.<br />

OR<br />

Credit passes in General Knowledge in Art, Picture Making <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong>/or Sculpture <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> <strong>an</strong>y other Visual Arts<br />

General Knowledge in Art <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> <strong>an</strong>y TWO (2) Visual Arts Elective Subjects.<br />

SCIENCE: General Knowledge in Art, plus <strong>an</strong>y TWO (2) Science Elective Subjects.<br />

3.3. MATURE APPLICANTS<br />

Applic<strong>an</strong>ts must have attained the age of 25 years at the time of submitting the application with<br />

at least THREE (3) years working experience. They must also pass <strong>an</strong> interview at which<br />

they must submit a portfolio of Artworks showing interest in Rural <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> Industrial Art.<br />

EITHER<br />

FIVE (5) credits at O’Level subjects including Art, English L<strong>an</strong>guage <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> Mathematics.<br />

OR<br />

Credit passes in General Knowledge in Art <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> <strong>an</strong>y TWO Subjects in the categories indicated in 3.1 above.<br />

Diploma Holders:<br />

Applic<strong>an</strong>ts who possess the Diploma in Rural Art <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> Industry will be admitted into<br />

the third year of the programme. Applic<strong>an</strong>ts must also pass <strong>an</strong> interview.<br />

4.0. BA. PUBLISHING STUDIES<br />

4.1. Credit passes in THREE Elective Subjects from <strong>an</strong>y of the following groupings:<br />

i. VISUAL ARTS: General Knowledge in Art, Picture Making <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong>/or Graphic Design plus<br />

Textiles or Sculpture or Leatherwork.<br />

ii.<br />

GENERAL ARTS:<br />

Geography, Economics, Government, English L<strong>an</strong>guage, History, Religious<br />

Studies, French, Gh<strong>an</strong>ai<strong>an</strong> L<strong>an</strong>guages etc.

Mature C<strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong>idates with University Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology (Top-Up) would be<br />

placed in the THIRD YEAR, whilst C<strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong>idates with Ministry of Health Diploma in Medical Laboratory<br />

Technology or HND in Science Laboratory Technology will be placed in Second Year. All C<strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong>idates must<br />

have TWO YEARS Post-Qualification Experience, <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> must have passed <strong>an</strong> Interview. Applic<strong>an</strong>ts should<br />

3.0. BSC. . GENERAL NURSING<br />

3.1. WASSCE/SSSCE APPLICANTS<br />

Credits passes in THREE (3) Elective Subjects: Biology, Chemistry <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> Physics or Mathematics.<br />

3.2. A’LEVEL APPLICANTS<br />

FIVE (5) credits at O’Level, including: Mathematics, English L<strong>an</strong>guage <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> a Science subject, plus<br />

THREE (3) A’Level passes in the Sciences (Chemistry<strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> Biology, Physics or Mathematics).<br />

3.3. MATURE APPLICANTS<br />

Applic<strong>an</strong>ts must be at least 25 years at the time of submitting the application.<br />

EITHER<br />

FIVE (5) credits at the O’Level including English L<strong>an</strong>guage <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> Mathematics.<br />

OR<br />

WASSCE/SSSCE Credits passes in THREE(3)<br />

Elective Subjects (Biology, Chemistry <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> Physics or<br />

Mathematics).<br />

OR<br />

A State Registered Nursing Certificate (SRN) with a minimum of FIVE years working experience.<br />

Applic<strong>an</strong>ts must also pass <strong>an</strong> interview.<br />

3.4. OTHER APPLICANTS<br />

Holders of the Registered General Nursing (RGN) Diploma with at least TWO(2)<br />

years working<br />

experience <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> a good pass at the Diploma level may be admitted after a successful interview.<br />

3.5. BSC. MIDWIFERY (Females Only)<br />

• Credits in three core subjects at WASSCE/SSSCE level namely: Mathematics, English L<strong>an</strong>guage,<br />

<strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> Integrated Science, <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> Credits in <strong>an</strong>y THREE Elective Science Subjects with Aggregate of 20<br />

or better.<br />

OR<br />

• Mature Students (25 years <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> above) who are Holders of Diploma in Midwifery, have at least<br />

TWO (2) years of working experience <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> a good pass at the Diploma level, MAY be admitted to<br />

the third year after a successful entr<strong>an</strong>ce Examination <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> interview. Such c<strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong>idates will also<br />

be required to satisfy the University’s general requirements <strong>for</strong> admission to degree<br />

programmes.<br />

OR<br />

• Mature Students aged 25 years <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> above who are professional Nurses <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong>/or Midwives<br />

(Midwives <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> SRN) <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> satisfy the University’s requirements <strong>for</strong> admission, may be admitted<br />

to the (First or Second year) of the <strong>Programme</strong> after a successful Interview.


3.6. BSC. MIDWIFERY SANDWICH (Females Only)<br />

• Mature Students (25 years <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> above ) who are holders of Diploma in Midwifery, have at least<br />

TWO (2) years of working experience <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> a good pass at the Diploma level, MAY be admitted to<br />

the Second Year after a successful entr<strong>an</strong>ce examination <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> Interview. Such c<strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong>idates will also<br />

be required to satisfy the University’s general <strong>Requirements</strong> <strong>for</strong> Admission to degree<br />

<strong>Programme</strong>s. This <strong>Programme</strong> is taken during the Holidays.<br />

3.7. BSC. NURSING (Emergency (<br />

Option)<br />

• Applic<strong>an</strong>ts must satisfy the University’s general <strong>Requirements</strong> <strong>for</strong> the Admission to degree<br />

<strong>Programme</strong>s. In addition, they must:<br />

1. Be matured Registered General Nurses with a Diploma in Nursing who are at least 25 years old.<br />

2. Have a minimum of TWO years working Experience in a clinical area.<br />

3. Pass <strong>an</strong> Interview<br />

4.0. BSC. . SPORTS AND EXERCISE E SCIENCE<br />

5.2. A’LEVEL APPLICANTS<br />

FIVE(5) credits at the O’Level, including English L<strong>an</strong>guage <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> Mathematics, plus THREE(3)<br />

passes<br />

at the A’Level in Biology, Chemistry <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> Physics or Mathematics. Applic<strong>an</strong>ts must also have a pass<br />

in General Paper.<br />

5.3. MATURE APPLICANTS<br />

HND Dispensing Technology Holders with a minimum of second class (lower division) or its<br />

equivalent who have at least THREE (3) years of working experience <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> meet the University’s General<br />

Requirement <strong>for</strong> admission to Degree <strong>Programme</strong>s shall be admitted unto the <strong>Programme</strong>. C<strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong>idates<br />

may write <strong>an</strong> entry examination <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> when successful, may be invited <strong>for</strong> <strong>an</strong> interview.<br />

6.0. BHM. HERBAL MEDICINE

8.0. BSc. . PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT (ANAESTHESIA)<br />

All applic<strong>an</strong>ts will attend <strong>an</strong> interview.<br />

8.1. Graduates<br />

Bachelor degree holders in Life Science (Biochemistry, Sports <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> Exercise Science,<br />

Psychology, medical laboratory, Nursing etc) will be considered <strong>for</strong> admissions to<br />

year two (2) of programme. They will be exempted from some course already<br />

studied.<br />

8.2. Other applic<strong>an</strong>ts<br />

Holders of Diploma from nursing School, who have at least TWO (2) years of<br />

working experience <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> a good pass at the diploma/certificate level, may be<br />

admitted to the degree course (year one) after a successful interview. Such<br />

c<strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong>idates will be required to satisfy the university’s general requirement <strong>for</strong><br />

admission to degree programmes.<br />

Holders of certificates from Nurse Anesthesia schools will be admitted to year three<br />

(3) as Fee-Payingstudents<br />

<strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> there will be a pre course (Top-Up) Fee-<br />

Payingprogramme <strong>for</strong> them.


9.0. BSC. SONOGRAPHY (FEE-PAYING)<br />
