2. on the top layer, sketch the shape of
Discover Your City!
Be a Tourist
in Your Hometown!
• Many New Yorkers have never been to the
Statue of Liberty. For some reason, when
we have easy access to something, we figure
we’ll get there “someday.” Today’s the
day—do some digging and find out what’s
so great about your town!
• Take a trolley ride, go on a factory
tour, visit the museum, or sample local
delicacies.
• Pretend you’re from out of town and look
around with fresh eyes . . . . you’ll discover
interesting things you’ve never seen before,
and you’ll be an awesome tour guide the
next time you have out-of-town guests!
Hit the Library!
• Get a library card! Do you know you
can borrow artwork for your room from
the library? Do you know you can use
computers there for free? Do you know
that many libraries now lend games in
addition to books, music, and movies?
• At your neighborhood library, you can
learn about available classes and outings,
join a book club, or enter a contest.
• Check the schedule for kids’ programs,
especially during the summer.
• You’ll find entertainment like magicians,
puppet shows, and storytellers; and
workshops where you can learn things like
juggling, giant bubble blowing, arts and
crafts . . . you name it!
ingots of steel getting pounded into new
cars. See jigsaw puzzles being cut by
humongous presses. Visit the firehouse
or police station. Find out where the
garbage trucks empty their loads and how
all the trash is sorted and recycled. You
