SUMMER CAMP<br />

<strong>Gymnastics</strong> Camp Entering Grades K-6<br />

Monday-Friday<br />

During weeks 1,4,6, & 8 in the summer<br />

Gymnastic/Cheer Camp is a great way to experience rolling, twisting, and<br />

flipping in a fun way. Each session is one week long and taught by our experienced<br />

coaches. On Friday, gymnasts will perform a dance routine for<br />

the parents. Other activities will also take place throughout the day; Mystery<br />

Cavern, swimming, Gulick Gym, etc. Sign up for Gymnastic Camp at the<br />

WHAT TO EXPECT<br />

<strong>Gymnastics</strong> is an exciting sport that incorporates discipline and fun while learning how to flip,<br />

twist, and roll. The gymnasts program will teach you how to properly stretch and warm up muscles<br />

to help prevent injuries. They will also learn conditioning exercises to help strengthen their<br />

muscles. The Tikes, Toddler and Level one classes are a critical step in gymnastics and it is<br />

important to have this solid foundation. The average time a gymnast spends in a level is<br />

6-12 months and can be even longer as you move up to higher levels. Parents and children alike<br />

should expect to be in level one for at least 3-5 sessions with practice at home on<br />

basic skills stretching and strengthening. Our ultimate goal in gymnastics is to teach children a<br />

fun way to keep in shape. If the child is in gymnastics for a fun way to learn how to flip or to<br />

compete, the Y is a great place to start. Our goal is to have children smiling, laughing and<br />

learning.<br />

Toddlers work with coaches to teach children basic<br />

skills. Children will work on all apparatus (bars, beam,<br />

springboard & floor mats). We emphasize giving<br />

children a positive introduction to gymnastics. Increasing<br />

strength, balance and confidence.<br />

PROGRESSIVE GYMNASTICS PROGRAM<br />

Beginner—Intermediate—Advanced—Competitive Team<br />

The Northwest <strong>YMCA</strong> has a complete U.S.A.G. progressive competitive <strong>Gymnastics</strong> program for<br />

children ages 6 & up. Classes are listed by level, please note your child's skill level when registering.<br />

Your child will need to pass all requirements at each skill Level before progressing to<br />

the next. If you have any questions please contact the Gymnastic Coordinator at 723-5466.<br />

NOTE: Levels II & III must be approved by an instructor.<br />

LEVEL I (Beginner) 6-12 years old<br />

Gymnasts begin formal training <strong>of</strong> U.S.A.G.<br />

gymnastic skills (bars, beams, vault and floor), routines<br />

and requirements. Must pass U.S.A.G. Evaluation<br />

Requirements to move to next level. Children who have<br />

never done formal gymnastics training must do one<br />

session at Level I to be considered for Level II.<br />
