Reports are filed with the Monroe County Department of
Health as well as Camp Northpoint.
YMCA Financial Assistance
possible through generous donations to the YMCA’s annual
Invest in Youth Campaign. Applications for assistance are
confidential and available on our website or at the Welcome
Center. The amount of assistance granted is based on
individual need and family circumstances. All camper financial
assistance applications are processed on a first come, first
serve basis. Applications are due by May 1, 2012.
CAMP PREPARATION
& INFORMATION
What to pack in your child’s Backpack:
• Bring only what is needed/suggested
• Swimsuit & Towel
• Plastic bag for wet clothes
• Sunscreen lotion & hat
• Nonperishable healthy lunch
• Sneakers
BE SURE TO CLEARLY LABEL EVERYTHING WITH THE
CAMPER’S FIRST AND LAST NAME!
Daily Clothing Needs
There is no formal uniform at Camp Northpoint. Please
dress your child in t-shirt & shorts every day. Sneakers are
required footwear for all camp activities. Open-toed sandals/
flip flops will only be worn to the pool and canoeing.
Lost & Found
Misplaced items are common among elementary school age
children. You can help limit lost & found by:
• Labeling all belongings with camper first and last name
• Remind each child to check his/her belongings at the end
of each day
• If something is lost, check the lost & found as soon as
possible
• All lost and found not claimed after two weeks will be
donated to a charitable organization.
• Camp Northpoint is not responsible for lost, stolen, broken
or destroyed items.
Sunscreen
All campers should apply sunscreen in the morning prior
to arriving at camp. Staff will assist campers with applying
their own sunscreen after swim periods. In order to comply
with child abuse prevention guidelines, the application of
sunscreen will take place in an open setting. We recommend
that each camper keep their own bottle of sunscreen lotion
in their backpack labeled with their first and last name.
Because campers spend a large part of their day outside,
we recommend:
• Campers wear a hat to protect them from the sun.
• Campers wear approved swim shirts while participating
in swim periods.
• Each camper has their own personal bottle of sunscreen.
• Campers bring a reusable water bottle.
Medications
It is preferable that prescription medications be administered
at home when possible. All medication dispensed at camp
requires a Medication Consent Form to be completed by
parent/guardian AND child’s physician. Upon registration,
please obtain a Medication Consent Form from our website
or from the Northpoint YMCA Welcome Center.
Camper prescriptions may be dropped off the week prior to
camp starting or given directly to the camp Health Director or
AM sign in table during the camp season. All medication must
be in its original container and clearly labeled with campers
first and last name. WE CANNOT ACCEPT ANY MEDICATIONS
THAT ARE NOT IN THEIR ORIGINAL CONTAINER.
Campers with special care needs, including severe allergic
reactions, asthma or physical limitations should request a
meeting with the Camp Director and Unit Director.
Immunization History
New York State Department of Health requires each camp to
keep a current copy of every camper’s immunization history
on file in order for them to attend. A complete copy of
your child’s immunization history should be submitted to the
YMCA prior to June 1. Immunization History can simply be
dropped off at the Northwest YMCA Welcome Center, faxed
to 585-227-4829 or e-mail to erinb@rochesterymca.org
CAMPERS WITHOUT AN IMMUNIZATION HISTORY ON FILE
WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO ATTEND.
Emergencies
Our staff is trained in handling a variety of emergency
situations. In the event of an emergency, we will make
every attempt to notify parents immediately. If necessary,
emergency transportation will be handled by 911 and local
emergency services.
Daily Snack
A healthy afternoon snack will be provided for all campers.
Climbing Tower
All units will be allowed to climb at least twice a week
(depending on weather and temperature). Each camper is
harnessed in using a guide rope that will belay you and all
campers will wear a helmet. In order to climb campers must
have sneakers and also shorts or pants on (swimsuits or
dresses/skirts are not acceptable).
Safety
The Tower structure is inspected each year by Alpine
Towers International. Their in-depth report covers wood
preservative treatment, structural analysis, equipment
inspection (harness, helmets & ropes), guy cables, bolt
connections, and emergency procedures. The Alpine Tower
design is incredibly strong and capable of withstanding
extremely high wind loads (100 mph), as well as tremendous
weight (twelve 400 lb. people climbing on the Tower).
Family Night – Friday, August 10 from 6:00-7:30pm
BEHAVIOR
EXPECTATIONS
BEHAVIOR POLICY
Our camp is dedicated to providing every camper with a
positive summer experience. We have a set of community
standards and expectations for behavior which all camp
participants must follow, including a strict no bullying policy.
Our leadership team addresses all incidents of bullying
seriously and encourages campers, staff, and parents to
alert us to any problems during the camp season. It is our
goal to ensure that all participants in our community gain
self-confidence, make new friends, and go home with a
magical and memorable experience.
At Camp, we expect campers to:
• Follow the rules that counselors set out for each activity,
area, or project.
• Remain on the camp property and with their assigned
group at all times until properly signed out by authorized
persons.
• Use appropriate language and be respectful to staff and
other campers.
• Use all camp facilities and equipment properly.
• Refrain from fighting and any form of physical or verbal
aggression.
• Be a positive and active participant in all camp activities.
Prohibited Items
The following items will be confiscated by YMCA Staff and
held in the office for parents to retrieve at the end of the
camp day.
• Tobacco, alcohol, drugs
• Trading/Playing cards
• Electronic games or devices (including cell phones)
• Valuables (YMCA not responsible for lost/stolen items)
• Personal toys, games or pets
• Weapons (play or real)
• Candy, gum, cough drops (due to food allergies, campers
should not bring candy or snacks to share)
As in any group activity, inappropriate behavior of a few
campers can have a dramatic impact on the experience of
the entire group. Therefore, the following conduct policies
apply directly to each camper and will be used in determining
the camper’s eligibility to continue as a participant in the
camp program.
At Northpoint, campers must refrain from
• Intentionally and/or repeatedly going into unauthorized
areas or leaving the camp without permission.
• Using foul/inappropriate language or being rude and
disrespectful to staff and other campers.
• Fighting, physical or verbal aggression.
• Stealing or defacing Camp Northpoint’s or other people’s
property.
• Refusing to remain with your group.
Behavioral Consequences
Campers not adhering to the behavior standards will be dealt
with on a case-by-case basis. Frequent or severe violations
of the policy may result in the suspension or expulsion of
a camper from the program, at the discretion of the Camp
Director or Director’s designee. No refunds will be given due
to expulsion or behavior suspension. Your child will also be
suspended from the 2012-13 SACC/Teen Program.
The physical safety of all campers is the primary priority
of camp staff. Any camper who commits an act of physical
aggression or gross disobedience will complete a behavior
incident report with camp staff. Reports will be shared with
parents, and may result in any of the following actions as
determined by the camp director or director’s designee:
1. Conference with the camp director or director’s designee
2. Conference with the camper’s parent or guardian
3. Loss of privileges
4. Community service
5. Suspension from camp
After a camper’s third behavior incident report, a meeting
will occur between the child’s parent or guardian and the
camp director or director’s designee to determine if the
child can remain in the program.
