DEPARTMENT OF POLICE<br />
UNIFORM BUREAU<br />
I. Program Responsibilities:<br />
The <strong>Syracuse</strong> Police Department is responsible for enforcing all Federal, State, and local laws, protecting persons and<br />
property, and preserving the peace in the <strong>City</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Syracuse</strong>. This responsibility is the primary function <strong>of</strong> the Uniform<br />
Bureau through the provision <strong>of</strong> uniformed patrol functions as well as the investigative functions to enforce these laws.<br />
Some <strong>of</strong> the functions <strong>of</strong> this Bureau include, but are not limited to answering calls for service, conducting initial<br />
investigations, walking beats, issuing citations, maintaining an orderly flow <strong>of</strong> traffic (including Carrier Dome events),<br />
security at Hancock International Airport, Marine Patrol and K-9, Community Policing, Team-Oriented Policing, Direct<br />
Deployment Team, Neighborhood Storefront Centers and ordinance enforcement. The investigative functions include<br />
follow-up investigations for crimes against persons and property, forgery, aggravated harassment, stolen cars, special<br />
investigations, missing persons, domestic incidents, school information programs, child abuse investigations; D.A.R.E.,<br />
Officer Friendly, Youth Enforcement, <strong>City</strong> license applications, and background investigation and operation <strong>of</strong> the crime<br />
laboratory.<br />
