2-10. CHECKING YOUR FACEPIECE FOR LEAKS. WARNING You must check the facepiece for leaks when it is fitted and each time you put it on. A leaky facepiece will not protect you from toxic agents. Keep face clean shaven. An unshaven face could cause a bad seal between face and facepiece. a. Check that canister (l) improperly fitted to air duct hose (2) by firmly grasping hose clamp (3) and attempting to twist air duct hose (2) with moderate pressure. If the air duct hose or clamo turns while applying moderate pressure, tighten clamp more securely. 2-72
TM 3-4240-280-10 NOTE Tha following check is shown with canister removed from the carrier. If the canister coupling is attached, this check can be performed with the canister inside the carrier, since the end of the canister coupling sticks out of the back of the carrier. b. Press palm of your hand over Ml canister coupling (4). If canister coupling(4) is not on canister (1), cover entire canister inlet opening (5) with your palm. c. Then check for leaks by breathing in lightly and holding your breath for a few seconds. If fac%pieca (6) collapses, your facepieca is airtight and will protect you against toxic agents. 2-73
