2-20. USING MASK IN COLD WEATHER (CONT). b. Putting on Your FacePiece, With Hood Attached, in Cold Weather (Cont). (3) Follow procedures for checking your facepiece for leaks (para 2-13, step i). (4) Start breathing normally. (5) If the outlet valve disk (3) sticks to valve seat (4), do the following: (a) Partially open insulating jacket (5). (b) Pull outlet valve cover (2) down and massage outlet valve disk (3) with one finger when you exhale only. Keep doing this until the valve functions properly. (c) Reseat cover (2) and close insulating jacket (5). (6) Follow steps for donning hood and helmet (para 2-13, steps k thru s). 2-128
c. Removing Your Facepiece, With Hood, in Cold Weather. TM 3-4240-280-10 WARNING If you become overheated in very cold weather, do not remove your facepiece until your head cools and any sweat has dried. Frostbite may result if the facepiece is removed while your face is still wet. These precautions are not required if you are in warm shelter. (1) Brush ice or snow from facepiece before taking it off. (2) Remove mittens or gloves, as necessary to remove facepiece. (3) Remove facepiece with hood (para 2-14 for M25A1 mask or para 2-15 for ABC-M24 mask). (4) Wipe moisture or frost from insulating jacket of winterization kit after you unmask. Remove winterization kit if directed by unit NBC NCO. (5) Shake ice buildup from facepiece after you unmask. (6) Stow facepiece and hood in carrier (para 2-16). 2-129
