Conditions of Entry
General Admission Rules
1. The Arabian Valley Horse Club “Arabian Gala Event” is conducted under the rules and regulations as set down herein first and foremost and secondly
by the AHSA as per current rule book.
2. All horses must be registered with the AHSA. A readable photocopy of the registration certificate must accompany entries.
3. The lodging of an entry shall bind the exhibitor to the Conditions of Entry set out herein.
4. The Association committee without giving any reason shall have the power to :
a. Reject or cancel any entry at any time
b. Prohibit the participation by any person or exhibit in any event or class
c. Cancel or Combine any event or class
d. Remove any exhibit from the venue
e. Transfer any exhibit or exhibitor from any class to another class
5. Entry fees will not be refunded to exhibitors for whatever reason. Entry fees will not be refunded to exhibitors rejected due to non-compliance with
Conditions of Entry
6. The Association shall not be held responsible for any loss, damage or injury occasioned to any exhibit or exhibitor from any cause whatsoever.
7. Exhibitors enter entirely at their own risk, In case any exhibit, whilst on the venue grounds, shall cause or be the cause of injury or damage to any other
exhibit or the public or property of any member of the association or general public, the owner of such exhibit shall indemnify the association, it’s officials and
members for any loss or damage occasioned to any of them by the exhibit, the exhibitor or his/her agent.
8. To obtain members reduced entry fees, membership must be paid at or by the time of entry.
9. All horses accommodated on the venue’s grounds during the Gala Event must be catalogued entrants of the show.
General Show Rules
1. The Association and any servant, agent or appointee of the Association shall not be held liable to an exhibitor for the death of or for any injury, damage
or infection sustained by any exhibit, occasioned by or arising from any act or omission of any servant, agent or appointee of the Association done or committed in
the course of making or causing to be made any test to the exhibit whether to the negligence of any such servant, agent or appointee or otherwise
2. Any person causing annoyance by loud comments on Judges' decisions or by unseemly conduct or by insulting behaviour will, after being cautioned, be
named over the Public Address system. Should the unacceptable behaviour persist, forfeiture of any awards already gained and denial of further participation at
this -or any future Arabian Valley Horse Club Event -may result.
3. A Veterinary Surgeon shall be on call throughout the Event judging. Exhibitors or their agents are responsible for all Veterinary expenses incurred.
4. Any horse which becomes free from its handler or rider in the judging arena may be disqualified from its class. If the horse remains in the judging area
and does not interfere with any other horse or cause danger or disturbance and is retrieved properly, may at the discretion of the Judge continue to be judged.
5. Removal of facial tactile hairs and trimming of ears and mane is optional but eyelashes must not be removed.
6. Abuse of the whip or spurs will result in the handler/rider being required to leave the ring on the instructions of the Ring Officials. Any whip or spur
marks will incur disqualification.
7. Any form of Abuse & unseemly conduct by any persons will not be tolerated. This may result in disqualification and may be requested to leave the
grounds.
8. Any treatment to an exhibit which is considered to be inhumane should be reported immediately to an official. The Disputes Committee will examine
the report and should the incident be proven (in the opinion of the Disputes Committee) the offenders may be disqualified, for a time to be determined, from: all
prize monies and trophies already gained at the Gala Event or any other show or function controlled by the AVHC. Inc
9. Two (2) calls only will be made to the marshalling yard -a warning call and a final call. Late competitors will only be allowed to enter the ring at the
Chief Stewards discretion
10. Entrants in Amateur Classes MUST hold an AHSA Amateur Card
11. USE OF PROHIBITED SUBSTANCES: The AVHC prohibits the use of any substance applied to the body of the horse which in the opinion of the
Steward, Show Management or any Official inhibits the ability of the horse to sweat. Horses found with this type of substance on their coat will not be eligible for
competition and will not be allowed to enter any class. This is an animal welfare issue and will not be tolerated.
Halter Classes
1. No exhibit shall be eligible to enter in more than one halter class. This does not apply to special classes or Championships.
2. Where possible Purebred entries should be shown with free manes in halter classes. Performance horses shown plaited should not be discriminated
against.
3. All stallions and colts are to have both testicles descended into the scrotum except where an entire has had one testicle surgically removed and has an
appropriate Veterinary Certificate which has been submitted to the Committee prior to the Show.
4. Throatlatch’s on halter and bridle are optional.
5. Colts and stallions whilst on the arena must be under the control of a person 18 years or over
6. Deliberate inciting of stallions to challenge may result in being excused from the class
7. A Weanling is defined as a foal that has been weaned and no longer sucks from the mare
8. Mares with a foal at foot must be shown with their foals. All Foals must be haltered. No chains are to be used on Foal Halters/headstalls.
9. Broodmare: A brood mare is a mare which has a foal at foot or which is due to foal during the current breeding season (i.e. between 1st August and
following 31st July) or has delivered a foal registered by the Society in the previous 2 years or a Pregnancy Certificate to foal in the next breeding season. A Brood
Mare with a foal at foot must be 4 years and over. A Mare that is due to foal or has had a foal via an Embryo Transfer Program ONLY, does not qualify as a
Broodmare.
Performance Classes
1. All ridden exhibits must be 3 years of age or over.
2. NOVICE HORSE is a horse which has not won a first place in an Open saddle Class, or Championship ( Novice or Open ) at any official Show at the
closing date of entry. To be ridden in a snaffle bit with or without a drop/hanoverian noseband and/or cavesson. No Top Hats
3. An Intermediate Horse is a Horse which has not won a first place at Intermediate or Open level or a Championship (Intermediate or Open) at an official
show at close of entry.
4. Newcomers . ( ie. 1st season under saddle ) not to have competed under saddle prior 1 August of the previous year. Must be ridden in a snaffle bit.
5. Junior is defined as a horse that is 5 and under (ie: Bridle Path)
6. Senior is defined as a horse that is 6 and over
7. Youth is defined as a person who at close of entries has not turned 18. Youth exhibitors must wear safety approved helmets whilst mounted at ALL
times.
8. Western Pleasure, Bridle Path Hack and Working Stockhorse classes will be run by the Rules in the AHSA rule book.
9. Leading Rein is for any youth 5 - 8 years – and are unable to compete in any other youth saddle classes.
Awards, Trophies and Disputes
1. A Judge may choose to award a 2nd or 3rd prize if no exhibit is considered worthy of a 1st prize
2. Should any prize winning exhibit be subsequently disqualified, the next place getter does not necessarily obtain the same prize. The Committee shall
decide in consultation with the Judge
3. All disputes may be referred to the Committee consisting of the AVHC Inc Secretary, Chief Steward and such other member of the Association
Committee as the Committee may direct and the Committee shall, in addition to any powers herein before mentioned, have the power to disqualify any exhibitor
from any section or class for the remainder of the current Gala Event. Such decisions are final and binding
4. Protests must be lodged in writing with the AVHC Secretary together with $50-00, which amount shall be forfeited if the complaint is not upheld.
Protests must be lodged within ONE HOUR of the disputed decision.

For over 30 years, Terry Holmes has shown, judged, bought, sold, bred, and foremost enjoyed Arabian
horses as a business, and more importantly, a family affair.
My wife, Melissa, has a family background in horses and for the last twenty years has been designing
custom riding apparel for the top amateur and professional riders in the country. My daughter,
Chloe, is a very dedicated horsewoman and shows in halter, hunter, and English. She has numerous
national championships and is a national champion Saddle Seat Equitation rider.

Horses have always been part of my life since I was 6 year old. I have been involved with breeding
& showing Arabian horses for approx 30 years. I have had the joy of riding for both pleasure &
showing / costume classes starting out like most with pony club.
I have bred & shown East Coast, Royal Show, Australian National & Multi Supreme Champions,
mostly being Arabian Ponies, Anglo Arabians & Arabian Riding Ponies. With most of our biggest
show winners being sired by or tracing back to our foundation Purebred Stallion, Sorella Kahlua
(Cool Hand Luke (imp) X Sorella Sabari) who is still with us at 30 yrs of age and still siring foals !
Together with my 19 yo daughter Samantha, we run our stud Shiranna Arabians. Samantha also
shares the love of the Arabian horse, especially through a camera lens.
Horses bred under the prefix of “Shiranna” both Arabians & Derivatives have also gone onto be
great achievers in dressage, parelli natural horsemanship, endurance, eventing and Pony Club for
their new owners as well as being show and breeding horses.
I have had the pleasure of judging in both Australia & New Zealand, judging many breeds at both
halter & performance. I appreciate a good horse no matter what breed, but Arabians have always
been my first love, both Purebreds & Derivatives for their type, beauty & intelligence.
I look forward to being part of your show & thank the committee for inviting me to judge.

GOLDEN GARLAND

All breeds event to be judged by three judges.
$30 entry fee per exhibit.
1 st Place Golden Garland and $300 and an Embroidered Rug

3 rd Place Bronze Garland and $50

Each horse and rider combination completes a free workout TO THEIR OWN MUSIC in a set time
of no more than 2 minutes.
Procedure: Time will commence when entering Arena for Individual Workout, a Warning Bell will be
rung 30 seconds prior to the end of the time limit to allow for completion of Movement & leave the
Arena. If time is exceeded the second Bell will be rung. When the second bell rings, the exhibitor
must immediately leave the Arena as judging will have ceased.
The workout MUST include the below listed compulsory moves.
*2 separate canter changes
*lengthened trot
*hand gallop
*walk on a loose rein
*rein back.
These moves can be performed in any order.
Competitors will be scored on the different compulsory moves as well as other factors being:
presentation, difficulty & originality, manners & paces, quality & conformation. Each section will be
marked out of ten points for a maximum total of 100 points.
In the event of a tied total score, the exhibit that has scored the highest points on the 6
compulsory moves will be awarded as the higher place getter.
Horses are to be presented and ridden as an Open Hack ie. English riding attire and tack are
essential. Formal attire, hacking canes and spurs are optional. No dressage whips are permitted.
Music MUST be emailed to callawayarabians@bigpond.com by the 20th April
2013 in mp3 or avi format. If you do not submit your music by then, we will
randomly select music for you.

### RULES ###
Newcomer must not have competed in an English saddle class prior to 01-08-2012. Must be ridden

these stables is 1m 2 . This is included in your stable hire costs.

In consideration for being permitted to participate in any way in horse sport activities and in particular this event, I, the undersigned, understand, acknowledge and accept that:
Horse sports are a dangerous recreational activity and horses can act in a sudden and unpredictable (changeable) way, especially if frightened or hurt.
There is a significant risk that serious INJURY or DEATH may result from horse sport activities and in particular this event.
I knowingly and freely assume all such risks, both known and unknown, even if arising from the negligence of the proprietors of the Arabian Horse Society of Australia Ltd and/or
the event organiser (hereafter referred to as the “Releasees”) or others and I voluntarily PARTICIPATE at my OWN RISK and assume sole responsibility for any injury, death or property
damage I may suffer that arises from my participation in horse sport activities.
I understand and acknowledge the dangers associated with the consumption of alcohol or any mind altering drugs before and during the activity and I take full responsibility for any
injury, loss or damage associated with their consumption. I agree not to drink alcohol or take drugs prohibited by law before or during this event.
I agree to follow the directions of any event organiser or official and that any misconduct or refusal by me to follow any direction of any organiser or official can result in the
CANCELLATION of my participation in the event and my immediate removal from my horse NO MATTER where that may occur. I further agree to abide by the Rules and Conditions of
this show and the official Rule Book of the Arabian Horse Society of Australia. I understand that any such non-compliance may result in injury, death and/or permanent disability and
I agree to indemnify the Releasees against all claims made by any person as a result of my failure to comply.
I agree to wear a helmet at all times whilst riding and agree that I am solely responsible for ensuring that I wear a suitable helmet at all times while riding and take sole responsibility
for my actions.
I, for myself and on behalf of my heirs, assigns, personal representatives and next of kin, hereby release and hold harmless and agree not to sue the proprietors of the Arabian Horse
Society of Australia Ltd and/or the event organiser, their officers, officials, volunteers, coaches, agents and/or employees, other participants, sponsoring agencies, sponsors, state
bodies, affiliated clubs and if applicable, owners and lessors of premises used to conduct the activities (all of whom are referred to as “Releasees”) with respect to any and all injury,
disability, death, or loss or damage to person or property, whether caused by the negligence of the releasees or otherwise.
I understand that due to diseases such as equine influenza, the Department of Primary Industries, or other state or commonwealth government bodies may restrict or prevent the
movement of horses, vehicles and personnel for a time period, otherwise known as a “standstill”. I acknowledge that a standstill is a risk of competing and agree to pay any costs or
expenses incurred by any person or organisation for and on behalf of my horse(s) as a result of the standstill.
Effect of this Document - I have had sufficient opportunity to read this release of liability and assumption of risk agreement, fully understand its terms, understand that I have given
up substantial rights by signing it, and sign it freely and voluntarily without inducement of any kind. I understand that my signature to this document constitutes a complete and
unconditional release of all liability of the Releasees, to the greatest extent allowed by law in the event of me and/or the children under my care, suffering injury or death.

found in any action against you to be negligent shall be deemed to have been negligent for the purpose of any claim under this
