The Base for Accuracy
What a difference Black Granite makes! More than simple appearance
makes Brown & Sharpe Black Granite surface plates the preferred base
for accuracy.
• Grain Structure
Black Granite has the finest grain struc ture. A fine, uni form
struc ture means a smooth er, less abrasive surface.
• Easy Maintenance
Black Granite won’t rust. Washing with soap and water,
Brown & Sharpe Clean er, or other readily available cleaners is
all that’s needed to keep it “like new”.
• Reflectivity
Black Granite has the lowest reflectivity. Verniers, dials and
meters are easier to read against its non-glare surface.
• Stability
Black Granite is more stable. Its uniform density of struc ture is
less sus cep ti ble to change due to temperature and hu mid i ty.
• Federal Specifications
Black Granite meets or exceeds Federal Specifications.
Overall flatness shown guar an tees that, “All points of the work
surface shall be con tained between two parallel planes, the base
plane and the roof plane, separated a dis tance no greater than that
specified for the respective grades.” (Reference: Federal
Spec i fi ca tion GGG-P-463c)
• Center-Point Load Ratings
Per Federal Specification, surface plates may be spec i fied as
rated for normal loading conditions (50-pounds-per-square-foot
center-point load) or for abnormal loading conditions (100-
pounds-per-square-foot center-point load). This means that the
designated load may be placed in the center of the plate without
deflecting the overall ac cu ra cy more than 50%. Unless otherwise
specified by the customer, all Brown & Sharpe surface
plates are manufactured to meet the more-difficult-to-achieve
100-pounds-per-square-foot requirement - your assurance of
the highest-quality plate.
• All granite products are manufactured in an ISO 9002
certified facility.
