15.2.5 Important Issues for Improving Crop Farming, Expectations from a Development
Project supporting Irrigated Agriculture and additional Ideas and Questions asked from
the Research Team
85.7% of surveyed households considered an improvement of cultivation agriculture
necessary.The following issues were mentioned:
• increase availability of fertilizer to improve soil fertility
• build storages and greenhouses
• plant trees along farmland
• improve seed quality
• introduce new sorts
Following responses were given to the question of “What would you expect from an irrigation
project implemented in Khovd aimag?”
• support in the restoration of dams, channels and the headwork
• improve water access,management and distribution
• improve access to seeds, fertilizer and herbicides
The following additional ideas and questions were asked from the research team:
• Will the project improve water supply of Buyant sum?
• Who will execute the reconstruction of Janjin Boolt headwork? Can we participate in
the reconstruction activities? How long would it take to reconstruct the facility? How
will it be implemented?
• Who will be in charge of the headwork water distribution?
• Would the water be distributed equally?
• Will the project cover other activities except reconstruction?
• How is the project financed, is it in forms of grant or loan?
• Would the project provide cash support to farmers? Would business plans be
accepted?
• Can people, who had no chance to be involved in the Swiss project that allocated
200,000 MNTbe involved this time?
• Will the project provide seeds, fertilizer and tree seedlings? (We wish to plant trees for
farmland protection).
• When will this project start?
