Subject aims and description<br />

This subject is designed to make students familiar with<br />

international trade and the contemporary ltalian business<br />

environment, and to extend appropriate vocabulary and<br />

language skills. The aim is to give students the essential skills<br />

and confidence to do business with ltalian entities. Topics will<br />

include elements <strong>of</strong> international management and<br />

marketina, ltalian political, financial, cultural and economic<br />

structure;and enironment, exporvimport practices, and<br />

linguistics <strong>of</strong> international trade. A student seminar and case<br />

discussion approach will be taken. Teaching and student<br />

2 participation will be both in English and Italian.<br />

discussion in Italian: to develo~ in the student an<br />

understanding <strong>of</strong> c&ttemporiry ltaly through the study <strong>of</strong><br />

ltalian history which covers the period from the rise <strong>of</strong><br />

Fascism to present day Italy. It is complemented by<br />

Subject aims and description<br />

The main objectives <strong>of</strong> ltalian 3Y are to consolidate the<br />

discussion in Italian; to develop in the student an<br />

understanding <strong>of</strong> contemporary ltaly through the study <strong>of</strong><br />

contemporary documents on present day ltaly and<br />

appropriate films and other media.<br />

The aim <strong>of</strong> the subject is to consolidate students' advanced<br />

ltalian language pr<strong>of</strong>iciency and extend the work begun in<br />

Subject aims and descriptions<br />

This subject is highly recommended for students with an<br />

interest in the European Union and for students enrolled for<br />

the Double Degree BBudBA (Italian). It will provide an<br />

opportunity to examine the application <strong>of</strong> EU regulation, both<br />

from an end-user perspective and from the perspective <strong>of</strong><br />

third countries such as~ustralia. It consists <strong>of</strong> a study tour <strong>of</strong><br />

the institutions <strong>of</strong> the European Union and European business<br />

institutions, and includes some work experience in a<br />

European enterpriselorganisation.<br />

Subject aims and description<br />

The subject is designed to make students aware <strong>of</strong> some <strong>of</strong><br />

the main areas <strong>of</strong> Italy's achievements and to develop in<br />

students an understanding <strong>of</strong> the important economic,<br />

commercial, political, social and cultural aspects <strong>of</strong> Italy's<br />

changing reality.<br />

Note: In order to complete a major in Italian, A4309 and<br />

AA3 I0 (Beginner's stream) or A4306 and A4307 (post-<br />

VCE stream) are normally completed prior to, or<br />

concurrently with AA3 13.<br />

Subject aims and description<br />

Introduces students to some <strong>of</strong> the key terms involved in<br />

argumentative structures and seeks to develop students' skills<br />

in critical analysis and clear thinking through an examination<br />

<strong>of</strong> a range <strong>of</strong> contemporary Australian social issues.<br />

Subject aims and description<br />

Examines the ways in which government is structured in<br />

Australia and how the different levels <strong>of</strong> government<br />

function in our society. Particular reference is given to the<br />

relationship that exists between the political and the legal<br />

systems and their related functions.<br />

This subject runs over two semesters and highlights the<br />
