accounting, taxation and finance within their current<br />

Entrance requirements<br />

In order to be accepted into this course, applicants must<br />

have:<br />

a recognised undergraduate or postgraduate degree in a<br />

discipline other than business and a minimum <strong>of</strong> four<br />

years practical business experience; or<br />

at least two years practical business experience at middle<br />

management level and a good track record as judged by<br />

lntroduction to Taxation<br />

Taxation Entities, Issues and Planning<br />

lntroduction to Finance<br />

Investment Analysis<br />

Progression to the Graduate Diploma<br />

in Corporate Finance<br />

Students who perform well in the Graduate Certificate in<br />

Taxation and Finance will usually gain credit for up to four<br />

subjects in the Graduate Diploma in Corporate Finance.<br />

Fees<br />

The Graduate Certificate in Taxation and Finance is a full-fee<br />

paying course.<br />

lnnovation and Enterprise<br />

courses<br />

The Centre <strong>of</strong> lnnovation and Enterprise was established in<br />

1991. The Centre is designed as a self-contained entity<br />

dedicated to excellence in innovative education. The Centre<br />

is currently housed within the Division <strong>of</strong> Business,<br />

Humanities and Social Science.<br />

The Centre has built ~ts own pool <strong>of</strong> full and part-time<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>essional educators dedicated to teaching the<br />

management <strong>of</strong> innovation to practising managers. A key<br />

feature <strong>of</strong> all its programs is the use <strong>of</strong> 'pracademia' (team<br />

teaching between a practitioner and an academic).<br />

The Centre's aims are to provide its students with the<br />

necessary skills and understanding to start and grow<br />

businesses, and for existing corporations to introduce an<br />

innovative culture.<br />

There are currently a number <strong>of</strong> students undertaking PhDs<br />

and Masters by research, and the Centre has an active<br />

consultancy division.<br />

Graduate Certificate in Enterprise<br />

Management<br />

Career potential<br />

This proclram recoqnises the need to educate middle<br />

managers within existing organisations in the management<br />

<strong>of</strong> innovation based on four key skill areas:<br />

marketing aspects <strong>of</strong> innovation management<br />

organisational behavioural aspects <strong>of</strong> innovation<br />

management<br />

financial planning (cash flow projection and<br />

management)<br />

innovation strategy leading to an integrated business<br />

plan.<br />

The program provides a sound theoretical base in all four<br />

areas and the ability to apply that theory to management <strong>of</strong><br />

an innovative pr<strong>of</strong>it centre, new product development,<br />

systems change or other project requiring pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />

management <strong>of</strong> activities new to, or different from, the<br />

established activities <strong>of</strong> the firm.<br />

The program is designed for employees <strong>of</strong> organisations who<br />

have been charged with responsibility for creating and<br />

operating a genuinely new venture with high growth<br />

potential. The new venture may challenge existing company<br />

management practices and will require the ability to manage<br />

the innovation process.<br />

The program also provides for articulation <strong>of</strong> accredited<br />

subjects info higher level degree programs <strong>of</strong>fered by the<br />

Centre <strong>of</strong> lnnovation and Enterprise.<br />

Admission requirements<br />

Applicants should comply with one <strong>of</strong> the following:<br />

a. There are no prerequisites other than discipline and<br />

commitment by an employee to a task, role or projects<br />

requiring skills in the management <strong>of</strong> innovation. A<br />

tertiary qualification would be an advantage.<br />

b. Applicants may be admitted to the program at the<br />

considered discretion <strong>of</strong> the Head <strong>of</strong> the Division.<br />

The graduate certificate provides the basic entry level for<br />

people seeking careers and qualifications in the management<br />

<strong>of</strong> innovation or it may serve to broaden the skills <strong>of</strong><br />

managers qualified in other tertiary disciplines.<br />

Duration <strong>of</strong> course<br />

The program is designed to be completed within one<br />

calendar year <strong>of</strong> commencement <strong>of</strong> the first subject.<br />

Subjects are block taught in a modular structure and the<br />
