<strong>of</strong> the report request. Fees for such reports 12.1<br />

shall be determined from time to time by<br />

the Vice-Chancellor.<br />

10.6.2 Examination Scripts<br />

Within 30 days <strong>of</strong> the publication <strong>of</strong> the<br />

final result for a subject, any student may<br />

view their examination script and marks for<br />

each question by applying to the<br />

appropriate School or Divisional <strong>of</strong>fice or<br />

convener as appropriate. After this time<br />

normal Freedom <strong>of</strong> Information (FOI)<br />

requirements will apply.<br />

10.7 Amendment to results<br />

Any amendment to an examination result<br />

(whether finalising a deferred result or altering a<br />

published result) which is submitted within two<br />

months <strong>of</strong> publication <strong>of</strong> the original result, may<br />

be approved by the Pro Vice-Chancellor <strong>of</strong> the<br />

awarding Division as Chair <strong>of</strong> the Divisional Board.<br />

A Result Amendment form shall then be<br />

forwarded, via the Divisional Manager to the<br />

Divisional Board which shall <strong>note</strong> the reasons for<br />

the amendment. The Divisional <strong>of</strong>fice will action<br />

the amendment and forward the Result<br />

Amendment form to Student Administration for<br />

publication.<br />

10.8 Late submission for amendment <strong>of</strong> results<br />

Where a Result Amendment, other than finalising<br />

a result for which an extension <strong>of</strong> time to<br />

complete has been granted under section 10.3.3<br />

11. Special consideration<br />

bl 5 11.1 A student whose work during the academic year<br />

or whose performance in an examination or other 12.2<br />

assessment has been affected by illness or other<br />

serious cause may apply on the appropriate<br />

application form to the Divisional <strong>of</strong>fice for special 12.3<br />

consideration by the subject panel concerned.<br />

11.2 Applications should be lodged at the appropriate<br />

Divisional <strong>of</strong>fice either immediatelv followina the<br />

occurrence, or not later than midday on theihird 12.4<br />

working day after the day <strong>of</strong> the examination or<br />

assessment deadline. An application for spec~al<br />

considerat~on must be supported by appropriate<br />

evidence, such as a medical certificate or letter 12.5<br />

from a student counsellor, etc. Such evidence may<br />

be submitted by a student to the relevant<br />

Divisional <strong>of</strong>fice separately from the application<br />

form itself, as long as it is received not later than<br />

five working days from the date <strong>of</strong> the occurrence, 12.6<br />

or followinq the day <strong>of</strong> the examination, or<br />

assessmenfdeadline. No application will be<br />

considered after the publication <strong>of</strong> results.<br />

12. Special examinations<br />

A special examination is not automatic but may<br />

be granted by the Chief Examiner under the<br />

following circumstances.<br />

12.1 .I Where a student is absent from the<br />

whole or part <strong>of</strong> an examination due to<br />

illness or other misadventure application<br />

for a special examination must be<br />

lodged at the appropriate Divisionall<br />

School Office not later than midday <strong>of</strong><br />

the third working day after the day <strong>of</strong><br />

the examination. This application must<br />

be made on the Special Examinations<br />

Form which must be signed by either a<br />

medical practitioner; a Counsellor from<br />

Student and Educational Services,<br />

<strong>Swinburne</strong> <strong>University</strong>; or other person <strong>of</strong><br />

authority as deemed appropriate to the<br />

situation which has occurred. Later<br />

receipt <strong>of</strong> supporting documentation<br />

may be the negotiated between the<br />

student and the Division.<br />

12.1.2. Where a student enrolled for an<br />

undergraduate qualification has<br />

obtained a pass category in all subjects<br />

except one and has made a genuine<br />

attempt, presented for and failed that<br />

subject in the final semester, or where a<br />

student has made a genuine attempt<br />

and failed, in the penultimate semester,<br />

a subject which was not again available<br />

in the final semester, the student may<br />

apply for a special examination.<br />

Applications under this clause must be<br />

lodged at the Student Administration<br />

Office not later than midday <strong>of</strong> the fifth<br />

working day after the day <strong>of</strong> the<br />

publication <strong>of</strong> the results <strong>of</strong> the subject<br />

in the final semester.<br />

12.1.3 A genuine attempt must include<br />

fulfilment <strong>of</strong> all assessment<br />

requirements for the subject.<br />

A special examination may be granted by a<br />

Divisional Board to a student who is enrolled on a<br />

'single subject' basis.<br />

Except in the case <strong>of</strong> late applications, in the event<br />

<strong>of</strong> a special exam being granted, students must be<br />

notified within five working days in advance <strong>of</strong> the<br />

sitting date.<br />

The Division will arrange the timetable for special<br />

examinations. In general, however, special<br />

examinations will be held no later than the second<br />

teaching week <strong>of</strong> the subsequent semester.<br />

Special examinations granted in accordance with<br />

section 12.1 must be notified to Divisional Board at<br />

its first meeting after the granting <strong>of</strong> the special<br />

examinations and the student and Subject<br />

Convener advised.<br />

In the event that a special examination is not<br />

granted, the student, the Convener and the Head<br />

<strong>of</strong> School must be promptly informed. If the<br />

recommendation <strong>of</strong> the Head <strong>of</strong> School is not<br />

agrekd to by the Chief Examiner, the Head <strong>of</strong><br />

School must be consulted.
