Registrar at the Cashier's Office or the Student<br />

Administration Office as appropriate to the procedure<br />

being followed.<br />

Single subject enrolments<br />

Under the conditions set out below, it is possible to study<br />

single subjects <strong>of</strong>fered by the <strong>University</strong> without enrolling in a<br />

full degree or diploma course.<br />

The minimum fee per semester for single subject (non-credit)<br />

enrolments in 1995 will be at the rate per weekly contact hour<br />

as set by the division, plus the appropriate general service fee.<br />

The <strong>of</strong>fering <strong>of</strong> places in single subjects is at the discretion <strong>of</strong><br />

the division concerned and can be done only after full credit<br />

students have been accommodated. Therefore <strong>of</strong>fers may be<br />

as late as the first week <strong>of</strong> teaching.<br />

An application form is available from the division concerned or<br />

the Admissions Officer.<br />

Fees<br />

General Service Fee*<br />

All enrolling students are required to pay a general service fee.<br />

The fees for 1995 are:<br />

Full-time students (F/Y) $186.00<br />

Part-time students (F/Y) $ 91.00<br />

Students studying in the cooperative mode (FM $ 31 .OO<br />

Note: Allstudents enrolling at <strong>Swinburne</strong> for the first time<br />

will be required to pay an additional $20.00 towards the<br />

Student Union Capital Reserve Fund.<br />

Some fee exemptions and concessions exist.<br />

*The General Service Fee has two components:<br />

(1) Student Union<br />

(2) Sports Association<br />

For all <strong>University</strong> purposes a part-time student is one enrolled<br />

for subjects which require a total class, tutorial andlor<br />

laboratory contact time <strong>of</strong> less than seventy-five per cent <strong>of</strong><br />

the full-time course load.<br />

Students studying under the industry based learning<br />

(cooperative) format are considered to be full-time students.<br />

They qualify for the special rate only in those years which<br />

include work experience. These are:<br />

Applied Science degree<br />

2nd and 3rd years<br />

Graphic Design degree<br />

3rd year<br />

Civil, Electrical and Electronic,<br />

Manufacturing and Mechanical<br />

Engineering degrees 3rd and 4th years<br />

Late re-enrolment fees<br />

Students who do not attend for enrolment (including any<br />

required review <strong>of</strong> second semester subjects) on the date and<br />

at the time specified by their division or awarding school, will<br />

be required to pay a late fee <strong>of</strong> $20.00 (where re-enrolment is<br />

completed before the commencement <strong>of</strong> the following<br />

semester's teaching); or $40.00 (where re-enrolment is<br />

completed after the commencement <strong>of</strong> teaching for the<br />

semester).<br />

Additional fees<br />

A part-time student who adds any subject to those for which<br />

he or she was enrolled and thereby increases the number <strong>of</strong><br />

contact hours involved in his or her course to more than<br />

seventy-five per cent <strong>of</strong> the full-time course load, will be<br />

required to pay the difference between the part-time and the<br />

full-time general service fee.<br />

Refund <strong>of</strong> fees<br />

Later VTAC <strong>of</strong>fer<br />

A student who has enrolled as a result <strong>of</strong> an <strong>of</strong>fer made<br />

through the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) and<br />

who receives a later <strong>of</strong>fer from VTAC for a higher course<br />

preference, may receive a refund <strong>of</strong> all fees paid if notice <strong>of</strong><br />

the withdrawal and application for the refund is lodged at the<br />

Divisional Office prior to 31 March 1995.<br />

No later VTAC <strong>of</strong>fer<br />

A student who withdraws and does not receive a higher<br />

preference <strong>of</strong>fer from WAC may receive a refund <strong>of</strong> fees, less<br />

a $5.00 service charge, if notice <strong>of</strong> the withdrawal is lodged at<br />

the Divisional Office prior to 31 March 1995 for semester one<br />

and 31 August 1995 for semester two.<br />

No refunds <strong>of</strong> fees will be made where a student withdraws<br />

from study after 31 March 1995 for semester one and 31<br />

August 1995 for semester two.<br />

No refunds <strong>of</strong> fees will be made under any <strong>of</strong> the provisions set<br />

out above unless the student returns to the Divisional Office<br />

with the notice <strong>of</strong> withdrawal and his or her 1995 student<br />

identity card. A copy <strong>of</strong> the student's enrolment receipt must<br />

also be attached for any refund applications. No refunds can<br />

be processed without a copy <strong>of</strong> the receipt and ID card.<br />

Postgraduate fees refunds<br />

Students should contact course authorities for details.<br />

Confirmation <strong>of</strong> <strong>University</strong><br />

records<br />

The <strong>University</strong> recognises that errors can be made in the<br />

transcription <strong>of</strong> enrolment details from original copies <strong>of</strong><br />

enrolment forms to the computer-held files. It also realises that<br />

such errors can cause a great deal <strong>of</strong> inconvenience to<br />

students (and staff) if not detected.<br />

Students are therefore asked to check the record <strong>of</strong> each<br />

semester's enrolment.<br />

Students who do not check the statements, or who do not by<br />

the due date notify the Divisional Office <strong>of</strong> any errors existing<br />

in the records will be required to pay a substantial fee for each<br />

amendment to be made.<br />

Amendments to enrolments<br />

Withdrawing from subjects<br />

A student may withdraw from a subject or unit without<br />

penalty <strong>of</strong> failure up to the dates shown below:<br />

(a) for subjects concluding at the end <strong>of</strong> the first semester<br />

31 March 1995 or<br />

(b) for subjects concluding at the end <strong>of</strong> the second<br />

semester<br />

31 August 1995.
