Entrance requirements
Undergraduate
The general criterion for consideration for entry to a
Swinburne course is Swinburne's assessment of an applicant's
ability to complete a chosen course.
1. To satisfy the general entrance requirements and to be
considered for admission to the first year of a degree or
diploma course a student must have satisfactorily
completed the VCE including the satisfactory completion
of the work requirements in Units 3 and 4 of English.
Any person offered a place at Swinburne may be required
to present for a fluency test in the English language.
Applicants found to be below the necessary standard in
this test may be required to undertake a remedial English
course concurrently with their undergraduate course or
may have their provisional offer of a place withdrawn.
For the Mooroolbark campus, preference may be given to
applicants from the outer eastern metropolitan region of
Melbourne.
2. In addition to meeting the general requirements above,
applicants must also satisfy any prerequisite or special
requirements specified by the division conducting the
course and listed in the Swinburne Handbook.
3. Each division may specify criteria for special entry
schemes, covering applicants who may not hold the
necessary formal entry qualifications but who in the
course selection officer's view have the motivation and
potential to successfully complete the course concerned
Postgraduate
Applicants for admission to postgraduate courses normally are
expected to have completed a degree or diploma.
The specific requirements vary from course to course: some are
open to those with any tertiary qualification, others may
require a qualification in a specific discipline or range of
disciplines.
Provision is made for admission of applicants who have
qualifications other than or less than the normal requirements
outlined above but whose employment positions or experience
indicates an ability to benefit from the course.
Requirements for specified courses are set out in the relevant
divisional sections.
