Course aims and description<br />

This course will enable students to gain the fundamental<br />

principles <strong>of</strong> computer science, physics, mathematics,<br />

and communication skills in the high technology areas<br />

<strong>of</strong> scientific and sensory instrumentation and control<br />

systems.<br />

Career potential<br />

Graduates <strong>of</strong> the course will be qualified to work<br />

as technical <strong>of</strong>ficers in scientific computing. Career<br />

pathways include technical support to pr<strong>of</strong>essionals in:<br />

research and development<br />

consulting, sales and training programs<br />

installation, maintenance and upgrading <strong>of</strong> computer<br />

equipment.<br />

Areas <strong>of</strong> employment include: instrumentation,<br />

process control, materials research, defence, medical<br />

technology, aeronautics, education, sales and marketing.<br />

Further studies pathways<br />

On completion students are eligible to apply for entry<br />

into the second year <strong>of</strong> the Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Applied Science<br />

(Computer Science) and the Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Applied Science<br />

(Computer Instrumentation).<br />

Entry requirements<br />

The entry requirement is VCE, or equivalent<br />

qualification with unit 3/4 passes in Mathematics and<br />

Physics subjects. Mature-age applicants without VCE will<br />

also be considered.<br />

Safety requirements<br />

Appropriate personal protective equipment is required for<br />

all laboratory subjects.<br />

Course availability and duration<br />

The course can be undertaken on a full-time basis over<br />

two years, or on a part-time basis over a longer ~eriod.<br />

Prospective students (exit VCE and mature-age) wanting<br />

to apply for full-time places in the February intake must<br />

details. Students wanting to apply for places in the midyear<br />

intake should contact the School <strong>of</strong> Engineering and<br />

Industrial Science.<br />
