syllabus aims to promote language skills to a standard<br />

which will enable tertiary study by developing the ability<br />

to read critically a wide range <strong>of</strong> materials, to write in a<br />

variety <strong>of</strong> styles, to speak confidehtly and to listen<br />

effectively. The subject also aims to introduce students to<br />

Australian and other relevant literature and to develop an<br />

understanding <strong>of</strong> Australia's cultural heritage.<br />

Mathematics<br />

This subject covers fundamental mathematical ideas<br />

for students considering post Year 12 courses in<br />

Business Studies, Social Science, Nursing and Teaching. It<br />

enables students to develop skills to master mathematical<br />

concepts and methods and to apply these skills to practical<br />

problems.<br />

Course duration<br />

Foundation Year is a one year full-time study course.<br />

Course aims<br />

The Course in Sub-Agency Practice is being <strong>of</strong>fered by<br />

the <strong>University</strong> to train people wishing to enter the real<br />

estate pr<strong>of</strong>ession.<br />

The course is designed to give participants a broad<br />

practical knowledge <strong>of</strong> the industry and fulfils the<br />

academic conditions required by the Estate Agents Board<br />

for licensing as a sub-agent.<br />

Career potential<br />

This course meets the academic requirements for licensing<br />

as a sub-agent which is required for many positions in the<br />

real estate industry.<br />

Course availability and duration<br />

The course is <strong>of</strong> fifty-six hours duration conducted in three<br />

different modes:<br />

part-time conducted on two nights a week for four<br />

hours each night. The length <strong>of</strong> the program is<br />

approximately six weeks<br />

full-time attendance over two weeks<br />

<strong>of</strong>f-campus.<br />

Entry requirements<br />

Preference is given to people who are working in the<br />

real estate industry. The Estate Agents Board subsidises the<br />

cost <strong>of</strong> places for applicants who are employed in the<br />

industry. Other applicants are required to pay the full<br />

course fee. Applications will be treated in the following<br />

priority order:<br />

first priority will be given to applicants who can<br />

present an Application by an Individual for a Sub-<br />

Agent's Licence signed by a licensed estate agent.<br />

Applicants in this category will be <strong>of</strong>fered subsidised<br />

places immediately their <strong>of</strong>fer is received;<br />

second priority will be given to applicants who<br />

are employed by a licensed estate agent or with a letter<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong>fer <strong>of</strong> employment from a licensed estate<br />

agent. Applicants in this category will be <strong>of</strong>fered<br />

subsidised . . places no earlier than five days prior to the<br />

course beginning;<br />

all other applicants will be <strong>of</strong>fered places on a fullfee<br />

basis as they become available.<br />

Assessment requirements<br />

To complete the Course in Sub-Agency Practice<br />

participants must complete all modules by passing four<br />

tests and successfully completing four assignments.<br />

The Estate Agents Board has a number <strong>of</strong> conditions<br />

which must be met before they will license people who<br />

have completed the Course in Sub-Agency Practice. <strong>Please</strong><br />

contact the Estate Agents Board for details <strong>of</strong> these if you<br />

intend to apply for a licence.<br />

One critical requirement <strong>of</strong> the Estate Agents Board is<br />

that applicants for a licence must be employed by, or have<br />

a firm <strong>of</strong>fer <strong>of</strong> employment from, a licensed estate agent.<br />
