Course aims<br />
This course is designed to provide participants with basic<br />
computing and information technology skills and<br />
knowledge to a level which will enable them to:<br />
work autonomously on low-level data entry and<br />
retrieval tasks and other low-level general computing<br />
tasks;<br />
work as a trainee computer operator on high level<br />
computing tasks associated with wordprocessing,<br />
database, spreadsheet and other s<strong>of</strong>tware application<br />
packages;<br />
work as a trainee help-desk and/or technical and user -<br />
support - - and/or sales and marketing assistant;<br />
make information decisions on career paths and<br />
educational pathways in the information technology<br />
field;<br />
achieve the core competencies required for higher level<br />
credentials in IT, leading to training as a computer<br />
programmer, systems analyst and/or technical and user<br />
support para-pr<strong>of</strong>essional.<br />
Course duration<br />
Hawthorn and Prahran campus - part-time evening basis,<br />
requiring two nights per week attendance.<br />
Hawthorn campus only - part-time weekend basis,<br />
requiring attendance on Saturday mornings.<br />

The minimum completion time for part-time study is two<br />
years.<br />
Prahran campus only - full-time (day) basis, with a<br />
minimum completion time <strong>of</strong> one year.<br />
Entry requirements<br />
Students are eligible to enter this course <strong>of</strong> study if they<br />
have satisfactorily completed an approved course at Year<br />
11 level or an approved equivalent. The course is not<br />
designed for school leavers. Applicants should have at least<br />
one year <strong>of</strong> appropriate industrial experience before<br />
undertaking the course. However, applicants who do not<br />
have the required industrial experience could still be<br />
eligible . . if they have current employment in an appropriate<br />
position.<br />
