3300KAC Advanced Certificate in<br />

Hospitality Operations<br />

This course is being phased out and students are being<br />

transferred to the Certificate IV in Hospitality.<br />

Course aims<br />

The course aims to develop a broad awareness and<br />

understanding <strong>of</strong> the hospitality industry and to multi-skill<br />

in skills and competencies from entry level to advanced<br />

level across four streams <strong>of</strong> Housekeeping, Front Office,<br />

Food and Beverage and Kitchen Attending. The course also<br />

aims to develop general and specialised skills in hospitality<br />

operations.<br />

Career potential<br />

The course meets the needs <strong>of</strong> people who wish to gain<br />

employment in hotels, motels, restaurants, retail liquor<br />

outlets, hospital, clubs etc.<br />

Entry requirements<br />

The normal prerequisite for entry into this course is<br />

successful completion <strong>of</strong> Year 12, though places are<br />

available for mature-age applicants. Candidates must sit a<br />

written test covering knowledge <strong>of</strong> the hospitality<br />

industry, literacy, numeracy and comprehension. There is<br />

also an interview at which applicants are assessed on their<br />

suitability for the hospitality industry.<br />

Successful applicants may be exempted from certain units<br />

and/or modules on the basis <strong>of</strong> demonstrated prior<br />

learning in the industry or academic qualifications.<br />

Human Resource Operations<br />

This course is <strong>of</strong>fered at the Hawthorn campus.<br />

Course aims<br />

The aim <strong>of</strong> the course is to provide graduates with the<br />

skills, knowledge and pr<strong>of</strong>essional practices that will enable<br />

them to perform the duties <strong>of</strong> a personnel <strong>of</strong>ficer in public<br />

or private organisations.<br />

Course description<br />

This course is <strong>of</strong>fered on a part-time evening basis only. It<br />

is made up t<strong>of</strong> 400 hours <strong>of</strong> core modules and 200 hours <strong>of</strong><br />

specialist modules and covers all the major areas relating<br />

to the human resource function, e.g. law, occupational<br />

health and safety, staffing, training and development,<br />

industrial relations etc.<br />

Career potential<br />

Graduates will operate as support staff in the personnel<br />

management field and be responsible for the day to day<br />

administration <strong>of</strong> policies relating to employment, wage<br />

and salary administration, training and development,<br />

industrial relations and occupational health, safety and<br />

welfare.<br />
