As the course was first introduced in 1996, only the<br />

Certificate courses will be <strong>of</strong>fered in 1997. It is intended<br />

that the Diploma level modules will be <strong>of</strong>fered in 1998.<br />

Students who have already completed the previous<br />

Victorian Certificate <strong>of</strong> Records Management will be able<br />

to upgrade their qualifications to a Certificate IV and then<br />

to the Diploma.<br />

Course aims<br />

m The aim <strong>of</strong> the course is to provide records management<br />

. practitioners with articulated, nationally recognised<br />

g training and qualifications, allowing them to function<br />

" effectively in a range <strong>of</strong> records management fields.<br />

L Pr<strong>of</strong>essional recognition<br />

5 The Records Management Association <strong>of</strong> Australia<br />

(RMAA) has a history <strong>of</strong> support for the previous course,<br />

for example, graduates are entitled to become pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />

2 members <strong>of</strong> the Association. Members have been actively<br />

3 involved in the development <strong>of</strong> the new course and the<br />

RMAA also supplies teachers for the specialised modules.<br />

Course duration<br />

The new course was introduced in 1996 with the<br />

Certificate 11course being <strong>of</strong>fered pan tim: with evening<br />

classes. From 1997 the higher levels will be introduced<br />

with the possibility that full time study will be introduced.<br />

Hours <strong>of</strong> study required are:<br />

Certificate I1 270 hours<br />

Certificate IV 360 hours<br />

Diploma 370 - 410 hours (depending which stream)<br />

Entry requirements<br />

Students may be accepted into the course with the<br />

following prerequisites:<br />

- VCE<br />

- Certificate <strong>of</strong> General Education for Adults<br />

- Locally accredited TAFE basic education courses<br />

- ~dult .. Education courses <strong>of</strong>fered by community<br />

providers<br />

- Workplace education and support programs, e.g.<br />

En~lish in the Workplace<br />

Prospective students will be interviewed and suitable<br />

candidates may be accepted without the above if they are<br />

mature age, or special entry applicants, that is , they have<br />

relevant records management work experience.<br />
