Part-time study<br />

The majority <strong>of</strong> part-time study is conducted on weekday<br />

evenings between 5.30pm and 9.30pm. Some subjects are<br />

available in the afternoons, 2.30pm to 5.30pm and some<br />

courses are available on Saturdays.<br />

The length <strong>of</strong> courses varies and an estimate based on a<br />

student studying two nights per week is listed in the chart<br />

printed earlier in this section.<br />

Flexible learning<br />

Students may be able to undertake many <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Business Studies courses through the <strong>University</strong>'s External<br />

Studies Centre. Enquiries should be directed to the<br />

External Studies Centre, telephone 9214 6798.<br />

X English language requirements<br />

Subjects are conducted in English. Students with English<br />

L as a second language require advanced level English.<br />

These courses are recognised for the purpose <strong>of</strong><br />

admission to membership <strong>of</strong> a number <strong>of</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />

institutes. These are listed under the individual courses.<br />

Entrance requirements<br />

The usual entrance requirements are a pass in Year 11 or<br />

an equivalent course for certificate courses and a pass in<br />

Year 12, an equivalent course or mature background for<br />

diploma, associate diplomas or advanced certificates. See<br />

chart for details.<br />

Career potential<br />

The general aim <strong>of</strong> the certificate and diploma courses is to<br />

provide a variety <strong>of</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essional and para-pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />

courses which are designed to suit the needs <strong>of</strong> potential<br />

section or department supervisors, marketing and sales<br />

managers, senior clerical staff, industrial supervisors,<br />

insurance staff, credit managers, library staff, estate agents<br />

and staff, sales supervisors, account staff, secretarial<br />

support staff and other supporting staff with specialist areas<br />

<strong>of</strong> responsibility.<br />

Application procedures<br />

Full-time diploma, associate diploma, advanced<br />

certificates<br />

Semester 1 1997<br />

All full-time places in associate diploma and<br />

advanced certificate courses must be applied for through<br />

the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC). This<br />

applies to all VCE and mature-age applicants for full-time<br />

courses.<br />

Intending applicants need to obtain the VTAC Guide,<br />

which includes all relevant course and application details<br />

and application forms, from:<br />

The closing date for VTAC applications is 27 September<br />

1996, and there will be an application fee <strong>of</strong> $24. Late<br />

applications will be accepted until 29 November 1996, at<br />

an additional late fee <strong>of</strong> $14, and from 30 November 1996,<br />

to 10 January 1997, at an additional fee <strong>of</strong> $40.<br />

Semester 2 - June 1997<br />

Full-time intakes for second semester 1997 can be made<br />

by direct application to the appropriate campus (see below<br />

for contact details).<br />

Full-time certificates<br />

Full-time applicants for certificate courses must apply via<br />

the direct application form available from the appropriate<br />

campus.<br />

Part-time applications<br />

Part-time applicants should contact the appropriate<br />

campus to be sent the Part-time Students' Information<br />

brochure. an individual detailed course brochure and a<br />

part-time application form.<br />
