Objectives and content<br />
The aim <strong>of</strong> this subject is to provide a framework for<br />
coping with people in crisis situations. This subject will<br />
cover stress and post-trauma stress, crisis situations, mental<br />
illness, behavioural disorders, drug and alcohol issues,<br />
aggression and conflict, sexual assault, domestic violence,<br />
child abuse, cross cultural and gender issues and crisis help.<br />

Objectives and content<br />
The aim <strong>of</strong> this subject is to provide basic skills and<br />
knowledge required for para-legal workers in the justice<br />
system. Areas to be covered include criminal law, young<br />
people and the law, police, Magistrates' Court,<br />
Administrative Review, complaints against government,<br />
Social Security, immigration, employment, local<br />
government, legal pr<strong>of</strong>ession and advocacy.<br />
TH256 Elective 1<br />

Objectives and content<br />
Appropriate electives can be selected from within the<br />
Diploma <strong>of</strong> Community Services (Community<br />
Development) and/or other relevant courses <strong>of</strong> study.<br />
Selection <strong>of</strong> zlectives will be finalised after consultation<br />
with the coordinator.<br />

introductory framework <strong>of</strong> Australian law making bodies<br />

examine the criminal justice system and develop the<br />
participant's legal research skills.<br />

Objectives and content<br />
The purpose <strong>of</strong> this module is to familiarise the student<br />
with the judicial system, procedures <strong>of</strong> conducting an<br />
investigation, case file management, preservation and<br />
recording <strong>of</strong> evidence, the law <strong>of</strong> evidence, presentation <strong>of</strong><br />
evidence in a court <strong>of</strong> law and witness responsibilities,<br />
court procedure and etiquette.<br />

The purpose <strong>of</strong> this module is to provide the learner with<br />

<strong>of</strong> the major theories that explain why our society operates<br />
this way.<br />
