Content<br />
The aim <strong>of</strong> this module is to familiarise the student with<br />
the terminology used to describe the main components <strong>of</strong><br />
the 'traditional' single-CPU computer system in its various<br />
guises, and with the purpose <strong>of</strong> each component and its<br />
contribution to the functioning <strong>of</strong> the complete system.<br />
The student will also become familiar with simple measures<br />
<strong>of</strong> a computer's speed and capacity. The student will have<br />
assembled the components <strong>of</strong> a typical retail personal<br />
computer into an operating system.<br />
ITC304 Word Processing Operations<br />
A modules in the Diploma <strong>of</strong> Applied Science (Materials<br />

Students produce, format and electronically file multiple<br />
page word processed documents.<br />

Content<br />
These modules provide students with skills to assemble a<br />
microcomputer from components. This will include the<br />
ability to select and install appropriate components,<br />
perform a range <strong>of</strong> hardware upgrades, and identify and<br />
rectify faults in microcomputer hardware.<br />

Content<br />
The aim <strong>of</strong> this module is to use the study <strong>of</strong> a particular<br />
microcomputer architecture to provide the student with<br />
transferable skills needed to understand the architecture <strong>of</strong><br />
a typical single-CPU computer system with particular<br />
emphasis on the internal structure <strong>of</strong> the CPU, the nature<br />
<strong>of</strong> its operational cycle and its control, instruction and data<br />
connections with other digital devices.<br />
