Objectives and content<br />

Familiarises students with the benefits <strong>of</strong> early intervention<br />

and the advantages and disadvantages <strong>of</strong> a variety <strong>of</strong><br />

integration programs. It provides knowledge <strong>of</strong> the<br />

resources available in the community to assist in<br />

integrating children with additional needs into child care -.<br />

services. The module covers basic information about a<br />

range <strong>of</strong> physical, social, emotional and cognitive<br />

disabilities enabling students to prepare plans for individual<br />

children with special needs.<br />

AS427 Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Development<br />

A subject in the Diploma <strong>of</strong> Community Services (Child<br />

Care).<br />

Obiectives and content<br />

Provides an overview <strong>of</strong> the children's services field and the<br />

role <strong>of</strong> the pr<strong>of</strong>essional caregiver in it. It covers the role <strong>of</strong><br />

government, unions and employer groups in children's<br />

services and increases awareness <strong>of</strong> the range <strong>of</strong> children's<br />

services and resources. Examines past and present<br />

community attitudes towards children's services, and the<br />

wav in which a careeiver " can contribute to effective<br />

management and administration.<br />

religion, sex, socio-economic, status or family structure.<br />

In this subject, students commence longitudinal study,<br />

following the development <strong>of</strong> a baby over an eighteen<br />

month period. Child Study enable students to observe a<br />

baby within the context <strong>of</strong> the family and home<br />

environment, practisinp. techniques in recording and<br />

analysing observations and in maintaining objectivity and<br />

sensitivity when collating confidential material.<br />
