A subject in the Diploma <strong>of</strong> Arts: Visual Arts.<br />

Objectives and content<br />

Context and Culture is designed to introduce students to<br />

various art forms within a cultural context. Emphasis will<br />

be placed on social environment and the identification <strong>of</strong><br />

one's own social milieu. Through the study <strong>of</strong> sociological<br />

subject matters students will be required to recognise<br />

environmental factors within their own work and the<br />

work <strong>of</strong> other artists. Students evaluate and become<br />

involved in a number <strong>of</strong> different art forms through<br />

exhibitions, exposure to film and theatre and a Visiting<br />

Artist program.<br />

AP702 Contemporary Art Studies 1<br />

2 hours per week for 16 weeks Prahran<br />

A subject in the Diploma <strong>of</strong> Arts: Visual Arts.<br />

Objectives and content<br />

This subject introduces students to the study <strong>of</strong> the visual<br />

arts by providing them with some knowledge <strong>of</strong> the<br />

conventions <strong>of</strong> history in relation to contemporary art.<br />

Specific emphasis is placed on painting, printmaking,<br />

sculpture and photography with relevant class groups.<br />

AP703 General Drawing 1<br />

3 hours per week for 16 weeks Prahran<br />

A subject in the Diploma <strong>of</strong> Arts: Visual Arts.<br />

Objectives and content<br />

General Drawing provides the student with knowledge and<br />

practical experience in drawing and its relevance and<br />

application to other modules contained within the course.<br />

Objectives and content<br />

This subject introduces students to the discipline <strong>of</strong> life<br />

drawing, and incorporates and relates this to other studies<br />

Objectives and content<br />

Support Studies enables students to extend their experience<br />

by providing them with a range <strong>of</strong> elective options which<br />

relate to their pursuit <strong>of</strong> enquiry.<br />

Objectives and content<br />

This subject provides an in-depth analysis <strong>of</strong> sociological<br />

subject matter. The relation between art and social<br />

environment will be further emphasised. Students will be<br />

required to acquire a knowledge <strong>of</strong> the art industry and its<br />

relevance to themselves as future practitioners.<br />

AP707 Contemporary Art Studies 2<br />

2 hours per week for 16 weeks Prahran<br />

A subject in the Diploma <strong>of</strong> Arts: Visual Arts.<br />

Objectives and content<br />

To build on the knowledge gained in Contemporary Art<br />

Studies 1. Emphasis is placed on the identification <strong>of</strong> the<br />

philosophical basis on which art works are made. The<br />

conventions <strong>of</strong> history in relation to contemporary art are<br />

further explored. Specific emphasis is placed on extending<br />

individual's concepts <strong>of</strong> the purpose <strong>of</strong> an production.<br />

AP708 General Drawing 2<br />

3 hours per week for 16 weeks Prahran<br />

A subject in the Diploma <strong>of</strong> Arts: Visual Arts.<br />

Objectives and content<br />

To extend on the practical knowledge gained in General<br />

Drawing 1 and to incorporate new information into the<br />

production <strong>of</strong> a series <strong>of</strong> drawings that will culminate in<br />

the production <strong>of</strong> a folio.<br />

AP709 Life Drawing 2<br />

2 hours per week for 16 weeks Prahran<br />

A subject in the Diploma <strong>of</strong> Arts: Visual Arts.<br />

Obj ves and content<br />

To identify and apply an extended knowledge and<br />

investigation <strong>of</strong> drawing media and produce a folio <strong>of</strong> life<br />

drawings which display a diversity <strong>of</strong> poses and time<br />

durations.<br />
