reinforces the status <strong>of</strong> homebased child-care workers as<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>essional providers <strong>of</strong> a children's service.<br />

AC713 Children's Growth and Development<br />

Objectives and content<br />

This subject will provide the basic theoretical knowledge <strong>of</strong><br />

growth and development <strong>of</strong> children from birth to ten<br />

years. It will include the knowledge required to develop a<br />

practices in homebased care.<br />

This subject will provide the skills in basic caregiving in the<br />

This subject will provide the skills and knowledge required<br />

to provide an enjoyable environment for children which<br />

facilitates learning and development. It is also designed to<br />

help the carer provide an environment which reinforces<br />

children's pride in their own ethnicity and enhances their<br />

self esteem.<br />

This subject looks at the different cultures, environments<br />

AC717 Practical Placement<br />

100 hours Prahran<br />

A subject in the Certificate in Child Care (Homebased).<br />

~bjedives and content<br />

Practical work with children is an essential component <strong>of</strong><br />

the course. It gives the students the opportunity to relate<br />

theoretical knowledge to their work with children, families<br />

and coordinating staff. Approximately one two-hour visit<br />

by <strong>University</strong> staff is required to assess each student. The<br />

one visit per student is a minimum course requirement. If<br />

further visits are required this can be done in consultation<br />

with student and coordinating staff. The visit can be either<br />

in the caregivers home or at the family day care play group.<br />

AC819 Policy<br />
