and Community Services. RPL is <strong>of</strong>fered in a number <strong>of</strong><br />

subject areas, where the student can fully demonstrate<br />

competence already pined.<br />

Further studies pathways<br />

The Certificate course fully articulates into the Advanced<br />

Certificate. Pathways are recommended from the Advanced<br />

Certificate in Family Support Work to articulate into three<br />

alternatives:<br />

Diploma <strong>of</strong> Community Service (Welfare Studies)<br />

Diploma <strong>of</strong> Community Service (Community<br />

Development)<br />

Advanced Certificate/Associate Diploma <strong>of</strong> Social<br />

Science (Residential and Community Studies)<br />

Entry requirements<br />

Applicants must be at least twenty-three years <strong>of</strong> age at the<br />

beginning <strong>of</strong> the course.<br />

Course duration<br />

The course consists <strong>of</strong> 300 hours <strong>of</strong> coursework and 72<br />

hours <strong>of</strong> practical work.<br />

3 2 2 2 Certificate ~ ~ ~ in Parent Education<br />

Leadership Training<br />

This course is <strong>of</strong>fered at the Prahran campus. The course<br />

in Parent Education Leadership Training is designed to meet<br />

the training needs <strong>of</strong> direct provision workers in family<br />

E s~p~ort/~arent program agencies. It <strong>of</strong>fers participants the<br />

3 necessary practical and theoretical training to lead parenting<br />

groups or provide services in parenting support and related<br />

areas.<br />

Successful completion <strong>of</strong> the course may lead to<br />

employment in this area.<br />

Recognition <strong>of</strong> prior learning<br />

Applicants with previous qualifications at a relevant<br />

associate diploma level or above together with extensive<br />

experience may be eligible for some exemptions.<br />

Applicants are required to be a minimum age <strong>of</strong> twentythree<br />

and will need to show maturity and understanding<br />

in working with people.<br />

This course is <strong>of</strong>fered in part-time study flexible<br />

learning mode consisting <strong>of</strong> ninety hours <strong>of</strong> <strong>University</strong><br />

time and ten hours <strong>of</strong> field experience.<br />

SC~~~COP Cornmunily Options Program<br />

(COP)<br />

The Community Options Program on Prahran campus<br />

provides a unique opportunity for people with intellectual<br />

disabilities to participate in individualised programs in an<br />

integrated setting.<br />

Career potential<br />

The aim <strong>of</strong> the program is to provide people with an<br />

intellectual disability with the opportunities to develop<br />

the necessary skills for future employment, further<br />

education or community involvement.<br />

Further studies pathways<br />

Although the program provides no formal pathways into<br />

other courses, individual students are encouraged and<br />

assisted to access further study within and external to<br />

TAFE.<br />

Entry requirements<br />

Applicants should be aged between sixteen and forty-five<br />

years and should be registered with Health and Community<br />

Services Victoria - Intellectual Disability Services.<br />

Course duration<br />

Twelve months to two years.
