Career Potential<br />
This course aims to provide an accredited training program<br />
for people wishing to pursue a career in the recreation<br />
industry in either Sports Coaching or Administration.<br />
The Administration stream is for people wishing to pursue<br />
a career or improve skills in the administration <strong>of</strong><br />
recreation organisations. The Sports Coaching stream is<br />
for people wishing to pursue a career or improve skills in<br />
sports coaching operations.<br />
Further Studies/ Pathways<br />
This Diploma is part <strong>of</strong> a Pathway which links to entry<br />
level, supervisory and management training. The Culture,<br />
Recreation, Education and Training Industry is currently<br />
undertaking an articulation project to establish the links<br />
between this training Pathway and a range <strong>of</strong> courses in the<br />
sports, recreation and fitness areas in the Higher Education<br />
sector. It is planned that these arrangements will be in<br />
place by the end <strong>of</strong> July 1996.<br />
Membership <strong>of</strong> the Australian Sports Administrators'<br />
Association is available on completion <strong>of</strong> the Recreation<br />
(Sports Administration) Diploma to Administration<br />
students.<br />
Course duration<br />
The Diploma can be completed in 2 years full time study<br />
both 'on' and '<strong>of</strong>f-the-job' or a part-time equivalent (subject<br />
to <strong>University</strong> approval).<br />
Students will be eligible for Certificate IV <strong>of</strong> Recreation<br />
(Sports Coaching) or (Administration) upon completion <strong>of</strong><br />
the first year <strong>of</strong> the Diploma.<br />
There is a significant requirement for on the job training,<br />
and students are expected to have access to a recreation<br />
organisation in order to successfully complete the course.<br />
Students in the Coaching Stream must complete 100 hours<br />
<strong>of</strong> coaching qualifications in an approved sport.<br />
Entry requirements<br />
Entry to the Diploma will normally be undertaken by<br />
those who have successfully completed Year 12 or<br />
equivalent. Some places are reserved for applicants who<br />
may have life experience without formal education to Year<br />
12. Preference will be given to all applicants who can<br />
demonstrate recreation experience.<br />

(Justice)<br />
This course is <strong>of</strong>fered at the Hawthorn campus.<br />
Course aims and content<br />
The course will ensure student gain knowledge in the<br />
following areas as they relate to community para-legal<br />
work and human service settings:<br />
Basic sociocultural, ~olitical and legal structures<br />
intellectual frameworks <strong>of</strong> the study <strong>of</strong> law and legal<br />
processes and law enforcement<br />
a range <strong>of</strong> interpersonal strategies and tactics within<br />
legal, social, cultural, economic and political<br />
dimensions<br />
relationship <strong>of</strong> community work to political and legal<br />
policy and enforcement processes.<br />
Career potential<br />
The Diploma <strong>of</strong> Social Science (Justice) aims to provide<br />
learners with the appropriate training and qualification to<br />
work at the para-pr<strong>of</strong>essional level in public or private<br />
organisations within the justice industry.<br />
Further studies pathways<br />
Upon completion <strong>of</strong> the Diploma, students will have the<br />
opportunity to continue studies at RMIT, Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Arts<br />
(Criminal Justice Administration). Articulation options<br />
with other suitable degree level programs are being<br />
pursued.<br />
