The course content has been developed by industry<br />
representatives together with educationalists and aims<br />
to develop design, manipulative and computing skills with<br />
the production knowledge to engender pride in<br />
craftsmanship.<br />
Career potential<br />
Students who successfully complete the course will have<br />
the entry level competencies to work as a graphic artist<br />
across a wide range <strong>of</strong> graphic industry occupations. By far<br />
the greatest number <strong>of</strong> career opportunities exist within<br />
advertising agencies and the graphic design and finished<br />
art studios which service them.<br />
Students from the course are employed in a number<br />
<strong>of</strong> other areas <strong>of</strong> the industry, such as publishing<br />
(newspapers and magazines), retail advertising, large<br />
corporations, printers, film and television production<br />
houses, educattonal institutions and government<br />
departments.<br />
Further studies pathways<br />
This course is vocational and designed to provide direct<br />
entry into industry. Further studies pathways are not<br />
currently provided, however applications for further study<br />
can be made on an individual basis.<br />
The course will take applications for recognition <strong>of</strong><br />
prior learning. Application can be made at the time <strong>of</strong><br />
the interview.<br />
Entry requirements<br />
The entry level for this course is post-VCE. The<br />
normal expectation is that successful applicants will have<br />
completed the VCE or are mature-age.<br />
Applicants will also be asked to supply evidence, through<br />
the presentation <strong>of</strong> a folio <strong>of</strong> artwork, <strong>of</strong> their art ability.<br />
Duration <strong>of</strong> study<br />
Twenty months <strong>of</strong> full-time study, followed by four<br />
months <strong>of</strong> evening classes (one subject) are necessary to<br />
complete the subjects required for the course.<br />

<strong>Technology</strong> (Costume Stream)<br />
This course is <strong>of</strong>fered at the Prahran campus. The purpose <strong>of</strong><br />
this course is to provide training for individuals who wish to<br />
pursue or enhance their careers as theatre technicians in the<br />
areas <strong>of</strong> costume or work in related areas.<br />
Career potential<br />
Career potential available to graduates is broad based<br />
within the arts industry, including careers in technical<br />
theatre and other costume related areas, small theatre<br />
companies, community theatres, theatre in education,<br />
festivals, event and project management and<br />
entrepreneurial work within the arts.<br />
Further studies pathways<br />
Graduates may choose to pursue further studies in<br />
performing arts areas in higher education.<br />
Recognition <strong>of</strong> prior learning<br />
Through the recognition <strong>of</strong> prior learning, participants<br />
will be given credit for subjects where they can provide<br />
evidence that they have achieved the learning outcomes.<br />
Learning outcomes include:<br />
The applicant has actually completed the learning<br />
outcome that is being claimed;<br />
The learning outcome is still valid and performable;<br />
The learning has reached the accepted level;<br />
The learning is applicable to the area claimed;<br />
The learning outcome can be applied outside the<br />
specific context in which it was learned;<br />
A sound connection can be made between the learning<br />
outcome and the vocational outcomes.<br />
Entry requirements<br />
Admission to the course is conditional on<br />
successful completion <strong>of</strong> VCE. Provision is made for<br />
students returning to education.<br />
All intending students must attend an interview/<br />
folio presentation.<br />
Course availability and duration<br />
The course is <strong>of</strong>fered as a two year full-time course. Parttime<br />
places are <strong>of</strong>fered subject to availability. This course<br />
combines practical studies, industry simulation, and<br />
industrial placement, to enhance students'<br />
overall knowledge, experience and networks.<br />
