~055 Bachelor of Business<br />

The Bachelor of Business is a three year full-time (or six<br />

year part-time) degree program offered at the Hawthorn<br />

campus.<br />

A new Bachelor of Business (L.055) structure is offered on<br />

the Lilydale campus. For more information on this course<br />

please see the Lilydale undergraduate chapter in this<br />

<strong>Handbook</strong>.<br />

Business specialisations<br />

The course leading to the award of Bachelor of Business<br />

offers major, minor and elective studies in accounting,<br />

business law, business modelling, economics, finance,<br />

information systems and technology, marketing and<br />

organisation behavioudhuman resource management.<br />

The following majors are available from Arts subjects:<br />

Australian studies, Asian studies, cultural studies, European<br />

studies, Italian, Japanese, Korean, literature, media studies,<br />

sociology, political studies, psychology, philosophy and<br />

cultural inquiry, and Vietnamese.<br />

In addition to the business core subjects one major must be<br />

taken from one of the approved business specialisations.<br />

Key features of the major streams are described in the<br />

Bachelor of Business course structure<br />

Students undertake a total of twenty-four subjects,<br />

consisting of a core of seven subjects, and a combination of<br />

majors, minors and electives. A major consists of six<br />

subjects (at least two at stage three) from one specialisation.<br />

A minor consists of four subjects (at least one at stage three)<br />

from one specialisation.<br />

Students should note the following restrictions on subjects<br />

that can be credited towards the Bachelor of Business:<br />

a maximum of twelve subjects from any specialisation<br />

(e.g. Accounting);<br />

a maximum of ten stage one subjects;<br />

a minimum of four stage three subjects;<br />

the subject AT119 Academic Communication Skills<br />

cannot be used for credits towards the Bachelor of<br />

Business;<br />

the subjects BC331 Taxation and BC336 Advanced<br />

Taxation may be counted towards either an<br />

Accounting or Law major or minor, but not both.<br />

BH334 Asian Business may only be counted as an<br />

elective, not towards any major or minor;<br />

BI300 Industrial Project cannot be used for credit<br />

towards the Bachelor of Business; and<br />

students will be allowed to study a maximum of<br />

twenty-six subjects as part of a Bachelor of Business.<br />
